Redline gear oil
I know it's been done to death and yes I can search and yes I have searched but it's pretty quiet around here thought I would just make another thread to liven things up and get some new responses if anyone had any.
Was wanting to change out the gear oil to Redline MT90 and get some 75W90 for the diff, mainly to solve some notchy gear issues and try as I may the dreaded 1-2 at high RPMs.
Has anyone had any success at all? Or is it just a waste of $100?

I've just changed to Royal Purple in gearbox and diff.
I don't know whether it is a placebo effect or not but the shift action seems to be a bit smoother when warmed up.
Probably worth changing the oil in both casings anyway - most discover some crap in their gearbox oil from all reports. Mine was definitely on the way out by the look of it. And if you're doing it, you may as well get some good stuff in there.

I quite liked the redline but i didnt seem to last more than 1 track day. I have been using Royal Purple as the 1st time it lasted me a lot better. However neither seem to have solved my issues with notchy gearbox. I am going to try the line of bent forks and less than perfet syncros on pre 05 cars with my dealer and see how I go.
All in all, unless you are going to track, I would say try the castrol syntrax 75W85 (Not 90 as the 85 supposedly has very good syncroniser additives).

Redline gear oil won't solve this problem. I had MT-90 in my gearbox and it did not make one iota of difference.

Taka, I replaced my clutch with Heavyduty and have been on a new gearbox for the last 15 000km's.
The notchiness is back, it crunches at every snapping gear change. This gearbox sucks.
Gear oil at 15 000km's seems a bit low, but it might save me chewing another gearbox. Again, I advise, change the gear oil as often as possible.
Would greasing the socket-end of the RP shifter help?

So, for the first 5-10 mins, I avoid revving over 3,500rpm, avoid trying fast gear changes and avoid hard stops. My neighbourhood is much happier as a result, lol (except for when I'm coming home, mwahahaha).

Andrew you will be glad to know that the Japanese RX-8 Party Races recommands Castrol. I have not investigate on which one yet since I have no intention to move away from Redline.

Have been using the redline MT90 for a few months now.
I have noticed that it does suck when its cold and is really gluggy with the changes but then again, who on earth drives spiritedly when your engine is cold! thats just a one way ticket to screw up your engine!
