replacing the water cooler

Mine is having warranty work done on it today, because
Mazda noticed some discolouration around the water
cooler a couple of weeks ago on it's 30k service.

I don't think it has been leaking, but they aren't sure, so
it is being replaced.

Anyone else had similar work done or noticed discolouration
around the cooler?

What colour to what?

Adelaide can be very hot at times... do you think there is something to do with this?

I think the colouration was a darkening of the existing colour (which I suppose is grey? I haven't really bothered to look, but I figured since they reported this issue before I drove to Byron Bay and back, if there was leakage, I would have noticed during a 12 hour high speed drive. ).

Adelaide is planning on being hot later this week, and I am planning on sitting on the Hill at the cricket and drinking that putrid mid strength beer they serve, therefore I am planning on getting heat stroke ;-) never mind the car.

It can't be rust!

The car is barely a year!

The replacement part will be under warranty for sure...
I will take a 3 layer Bass sport radiator if I have a chance to change it. When I get the gadget scanner from Hymee - I may be able to do a few experiments.

Umm, am I the only one who thinks that a "water cooler" is something that lives in an office? I have never heard this term used to describe a radiator....if indeed that is what we're talking about here, dbb?

By discolouration, do you mean the service guys said they could see a coolant stain? It's a simple proceedure, a cooling system pressure test.....I'd be a little peeved if they let me drive to northern N.S.W knowing it had a leak .

Gomez.

It is replaced now anyway. I didn't believe there was a problem with it in the first place, which I why I was happy to drive to NSW. They checked after removing it, and saw no noticeable drop in fluid levels anyway, but they said "better safe than sorry, and better that we replace it under warranty" or some such guff.

oh well, at least I got fresh new coolant and a free car wash.
