Your posts make very little sense man .
At first I thought you were Revolver - then maybe Hymee . All your posts are in this thread so you have an interest in the SC obviously and are probably an Aussie.

Who are you ?

Revolver

Great to hear that it is working out. I for one was very disappointed you couldn't make the National's. Hopefully there will be an opportunity soon for us to have a closer look at the beast

And this experimental ***, is it like the Zebra's on Lake George?????

Cheers

Gee, thanks for the compliment. I'm sure Hymee's impressed too.

Actually, I thought it was Michael for a little while. Either way, unless or until he earms a little cred in here I'm tipping most people won't take much notice.

I thought you were a Kiwi Brettus?

Many thanks Tony. I was disappointed to break my perfect attendance record too but it couldn't be helped.

When I get a chance I'll organise a cruise to the southern highlands or Wollongong, so we can get the Canberra contingent along for a lil look see and a test drive or two.

I'm not describing my *** any further in public.

sorry about that Revolver (and Hymee if you are reading).
The guy seems to have an agenda so must be local to you or Hymee .

Yeah , I'm a Kiwi. But didn't think it worth pointing out .

No offence taken.

Yeah, he reads like an Aussie to me too. Anyway, whatever. Let's move on...

I've been researching the second oil cooler issue a little and was interested to read this from a former Mazda tech in South Australia:

"Even though every other country had twin oil coolers (manuals) except Australia, it has been discovered on the US club site that with the extra Oil Cooler, OIL Pressure can suffer.

A few members have removed the factory (twin In USA) Oil Coolers and mounted a single Middle Oil Cooler with less Oil Lines, and Oil Pressure improved considerably.

Lower Oil Pressure and therefore less oil flow has been attributed to Eccentric shaft bearing wear in Series I RX-8's, particularly if engine oil is not renewed regularly.

Also opening up the rear Air extractor shields behind Oil Coolers helps with Air Flow and Cooler Oil (particularly Summer), cooler engine oil also helps bearings"

Thoughts please guys...

/\ haha sounds like he has been reading this site .

BTW -that reminds me , have you seen the cooling mod I did with a 2nd radiator instead of 2nd oil cooler ?

Yeah I had a quick look at that. I don't know if I would like to go that far but I'm interested in people's thoughts on the second v middle oil cooler and whether opening up the shields is a good idea.

I'm picking our single oil cooler gives us higher pressures than the US guys as well and where it is now is the best spot for it IMO.
I drilled out the shield before I saw what ASH did - seemed like a logical idea at the time with no drawbacks so - why not .

Thanks Mawnee. It all fits very neatly under the stock engine cover. Stealth.

Here's some feedback I received elsewhere on this issue:

I don’t see how some cars can have an oil pressure issue and others don’t….especially when they have the same kit fitted. For me it’s all about regular oil changes and using the correct engine oil. I’d say they're suffering oil pressure is a result of something else. The oil flow requirements for a turbocharger if not done correctly (ie. Orifice too big) can reduce oil flow and pressure at the engine bearings.

The oil pressure gauge that I fitted is down stream of the oil coolers which means that I’m measuring the engine oil pressure as it goes into the engine. As mentioned, since changing the oil grade I found a good increase in oil pressure which is unrelated to the oil coolers because I’m measuring the oil pressure downstream of them.

I agree that opening up the rear air extractor shields behind the oil coolers helps with air flow and therefore improved heat transfer from the oil coolers. So I recommend doing this.

As 9krpm pointed out to me when I made a similar assumption . If you have more oil flow through the cooler you can get more oil pressure into the bearings because of that extra flow......

I assumed controlling heat is the overriding factor when going F1?

Dave, do you know if Hymee has a view on the need for a second oil cooler?

Team Ferrari telling you a teammate is faster than you is the overriding factor when going F1. The governing board may say otherwise, though.

It depends on how you drive the car .....
Around town with the occasional full on boosted run is no problem for the stock system .

Take it to the track and all that changes .

Ignore the pedants Alan - I knew what you meant by F1.

Yes, reducing heat build up is desirable but I agree with Brettus - it's only at the track with persistent high load that it can become a problem. You're not on it enough around town for it to be an issue. It's not the overriding factor btw - lots of other stuff to worry about too , but an important consideration nonetheless.

I haven't discussed this particular option with Hymee but Danny has fitted one and most seem to think it's a good idea.

I will, but I thought his comment was funny all the same............

Brettus's comment makes sense and I know you will be tracking the car so I am certain you will take care to get it right - no matter how long it takes.

My following this thread is from more than just passing interest.......so like others wishing you well on this.
