REVS, Australian agents for Knightsports Japan

As the title explains, we have become agents for and will be working with Knightsports Japan in developing their Hypercharger kit for the RX8.

At the moment the kit retails for around $6500 mark and gives an increase of 70ps at 0.5kg/cm2 = 317ps flywheel. The kit uses Greddy E-manage ECU

We will be helping to develop this further, i.e increased boost pressure with stronger apex seals in engine etc....

The kit is also approx $1000aud to install.

As most people know, Knightsports also do a few other products for the RX-8, as in exhaust, suspension, bodykits etc..

We can have shipped to Aus in minimal time.

We will have a catologue available asap online.

In the meantime feel free to ask any question via e-mail to info@revs-online.com.

Is there a chance if you ask them to crack the PCM mapping on our ECUS?

They have done that for their JDM 8's....

Congrats on the association. Hope I can see some of your 8 on track days .

I will ask them about the mapping, I have a lot to learn and get through with them. so it will be a matter of time.. But i`m sure they would be able to do it, if not they would know someone who can easily.
I hope to get my 8 to one of the vic track days sometime this year, once this setup is refined, i will be racing it often!!

Fdracer,
As per taka, I would be extremely keen on a knightsport ecu reflash, as Im sure many others would also. Please keep us updated.

I have been looking at rotrex SC's for my power increase

I didn't think the knightsports was worth importing due to potential engine management issues. Letting a local tune the EMU might be like Russian roulette. will it be a plug and play option?

how much boost are they running and which SC trim do they use?

it's just a centrifugal supercharger kit. they use the rotrex supercharger which uses an efficient way to multiply engine revs, keeping the sc compact and light.

I will be able to give exact specs soon, as i haven`t recieved it as yet....

Tuning wise, there is a few people in Aus which should be able to tune Emanage, I know my tuner here in S.Aust has tuned a few cars with e-manage and had no issues. I will also be looking at developin the kit with Microtech also as I am a dealer..
We will also travel to install and tune if necessary.

Boost is 0.5 bar or 7psi, so very conservative, I will be looking to run about 10-12 ideally. maybe more..

But basically they have this running fine making 317ps at te moment at 7psi, so a reasonable upgrade..

What about exhaust noise for us in the militant state? Its one of the reasons I have stopped looking at S/C options.

why not just use the std muffler or add more mufflers? you might miss out on a tiny bit of power but the supercharged power gains would still be a bigger gain than any exhaust system will give.

Thats one option, but a fairly permanent one. I guess I want to know what its like on a standard exhaust so we can get an idea.

The gains on using an NA muffler is not much but it goes up considerably when paired with forced induction. Going back to stock would only impede airflow and restrict the potential of the FI.

90% sure...

I agree drew, but the choice in this case has to be made for a quiet & legal power increase.
the std exhaust is ok as you don't get much more power with different NA systems. what you will get with other systems is much more noise.

so the choice would go something like this;

std NA + exhaust = <10kw gain
supercharged + std exhaust = 50kw
supercharger + loud exhaust = 65kw?

I'd give up the extra power supercharged to maintain a quiet legal car and get a nice gain over NA exhaust.

the exhausts effect would also depend on the FI type. a turbo gets more effect since it will generate a bit more boost in most cases. a supercharger wont get that effect since boost is tied to engine rpm.

Knight sports is based in Tokyo. You could call down there if you are close by. I nearly went there this weekend to have a look at their headers but didn't get around to it. I saw that Super Autobacs in Odaiba had their catalog there if you are close to that. Where abouts in Japan are you?

Tom.

Someone suggested to me that you could place a throttle body like device in the exhaust way which would allow you to open it right up when you dont care about noise and close it down when you do. I can see some logic in it but would reduced exhaust flow necessarily reduce noise? and would it have any other side effects?
