The AM Vantage does something like this. Over 4K the exhaust opens up.

Yes, there are a few of these exhaust silencers on the market,

I think GReddy do one with a cable (bit primative for RX-8)

Also there is a possibility of and electric one using something like a wiper motor
as an actuator, one of my customers brought in a muffler with one of these electric
actuators..... might be able to find out where it came from and if they do just an
inline flange type??
But definately a good idea!!!

Good luck, Tell `em Jas From REVS says hi!!
Thanks Jas, I'll see if I get the time to go there. I'm currently in Kyoto (moving cities all the time), but will be in Tokyo on the 22nd this month.
Alternatively, I might visit the Super Autobacs.

Ok, to all those people wondering about PCM reflashes, We can get it done to your specifications, (i.e to suit your exhaust/intake modifications, and fuel being used) about to find out a price very shortly.
We will require your ECU, so your car would be off the road for a week or two, until I can obtain a few s/hand ecu`s for change-over units.
Power is an increase of 10ps up, depending on your other mods. as claimed by knightsports.

Great news fdracer about knightsport flash available for our oz cars. Do you flash the ecu here in oz or do you send to Japan. Im pleasantly surprised that this is possible as our ecu mapping is unique to oz where we run 95-98 octane and knight sport usually tune to 100 octane as used in Japan.

Im pretty sure that using swap over spare ecu's would be difficult to do with the rx8 as each rx8 ecu is programmed to work with the original car.
Keep us updated. This is great news for ALL local N/A rx8 owners.

Haven't we established that the KS reflash is for jap spec ecu's and they are different to aus spec ecu's?

Auszoom, thats exactly the impression i was under. We would need a knightsport ecu flash custom tuned to take into account our Oz ecu mapping to begin with and then make the necessary changes to our map to modify A/F and timing to more performance optimised settings.
I have emailed knightsport in the past and they stated that in order to develop a reflash for our cars , they would need to have our ecu to decifer our existing maps and then modify the maps to suit, including for the use of our 95-98 octane fuel.
They did state that they were absolutely sure that our fueling was way to rich in the top end of the rev range ie above 5000-6000rpm and that by them leaning it out to a knightsport optimised 13:1 , that good performance improvements could be expected.
We really need fdracer to seek further clarification, and if he is completely sure that the knightsport reflash would be talored to our oz cars and not flash the existing JDM flash, which would potentially not be compatible, then that would be FANTASTIC.!!!!!!!!!!

Rexi

Well, so far guys, I was told that they can reprogram the ECU to our specifications. So I send your ECU to Japan, tell them what mods are done to your car, ie: exhaust, air intake and fuel used most commonly (just incase there is a race car for instance using 105 octane racing fuel...) and they can adjust settings accordingly.

So this is not a JDM Eprom install or anything, this is using your existing Eprom and modifying it to suit YOUR CAR..

This is new to us also and will be soon looking for the first customer in Australia to Reprogram, I have a few here which might be keen. so will let ppl know results, or if any of you are super intersted now we can get one done..

Please try to contact me on e-mail via info@revs-online.com also..thanks
So i have a record of who i have been dealing with..

Peace.. Jas.

Exactly what you think...it will overwrite it and you will have to send in again. Same goes with the RB reflash.
