RotorMaster "blown 13B-MSP" RX-8

G'day guys.

Am about to do a full feature on the latest weapon from ROTORMASTER for ZOOM magazine. This baby revs with serious grunt right through to 9000rpm. All with a standard exhaust.

Damned Joe, put a Hymee system on that test mule would ya.

Here are some pics of the install for the supercharged 13B-MSP

A procharger? I believe there was a US dealership (Sunflower?) that went that route, but I didn't hear more from them.

What kind of engine management is it using.

Your reading it wrong. 203kW converts to ~270hp.

Engine Management is via the PowerMod product from Automotive Control. aka the "TSI" unit.

Battery is an ODESSY one under the intake pipe. Starts the engine easily but further mods are required to allow the standard battery or placing it in the boot.

The engine management is the TSI interface into the standard ECU. Maximum boost is at 0.5-bar as thats the maximum flow of the standard injectors.

Rotormaster plans to find the upper limits of boost into those 10:1 rotors by upgrading the injectors for more flow & raising boost to 0.8-bar.

They are going to be sold as kits like the turbo units. The Turbo kits are still selling but Joe has found the supercharged kit flows better & gives more torque.

Pricing on the kits is something I dont know yet. I am getting the RX-8 next week for the driving test & will post results here for you all. Thats months before the rest of Oz gets it from ZOOM magazine.

On that subject, get this issue of ZOOM. Its the best one yet & has plenty of technical rotary information that all you RX-8 guys will need to know.

I've been dreaming about this type of setup with a centrifugal SC mounted with the compressor forward for awhile now.
looks great!

looks like the procharger SC's don't need oil from the engine?

Very nice setup.

More torque is what we are all after.

Will this car be present at the Nationals in October???

rotarygods comments on the centrifugal supercharger

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/rotormaster-blown-13b-msp-rx-8-a-69133/

"quote rotarygod"

You can see the battery in the pictures. It is the small red thing on the driver's side next to the intake pipes.

How much boost was this running?

I have a couple of concerns but hopefully this can be attributed to the fact this is just a prototype. The air intake on that is sucking up really really hot air from the backside of the radiator. It would make alot more power if it got outside air. I would have liked to have seen different routing for the intercooler pipes more along the lines of going down and under like some turbo kits have done. This way the intake could be routed to the stock location and it could get colder air. The maf is also after the blower which concerns me. If it is running off of a standalone ecu which only taps into the temperature sensor part of the maf then I fully understand but if they are using a piggyback ecu system they might run into problems. Hopefully this is just a prototype to see if it works and they'll get the bugs worked out of it.

Everyone look at that torque curve. Yes it is flat but it is flat going uphill. Centrifugal blowers are all top end power. They don't have much on the low end. Compare this to the Mazsport Greddy torque curve at about the same peak power level and you'll notice that the Greddy has tons more usable power lower in the rpm range. This is just an inherent side effect of centrifugal blowers.

I'm not insulting them for this kit in any way. I am happy that we are suddenly seeing more and more options out there for this car. I am just merely pointing some things out to make people aware of them. People just need to realize there is more than just peak power to look at....quote"

That is not the torque curve. That is the boost.

Cheers,
Hymee.
