Having received such a positive response to the proposed RX-8 Advanced Driving Course, Mazda Australia are delighted to provide you with final costs and proposed dates for the event.

The program has been specifically designed to allow RX-8 owners to learn and fully understand the capabilities of this supreme vehicle that has captured the hearts and minds of motor enthusiasts.

As a valued Mazda customer, Mazda Australia are delighted to offer you the course for $290, this is great value for money considering that market value for such a course ranges from $450-$658 depending on the course venue as shown in the following details:

Having now finalised costs and primarily booked dates on the basis of your response, please feel free to reserve your name by RSVP to rx8@mazda.com.au by the 31st May 2004 stating your Name, Address, Telephone Number and preferred venue.

Please also indicate whether you will require a helmet for the day and your preferred helmet size (Large, Medium, Small). Confirmation of the day's activities and itinerary will be sent to you once the required number of acceptances have been received.

The course has been designed to emulate the fun, energy and style that is Zoom-Zoom.

everyone should go to www.mazda.com.au and demand that they offer mazdaspeed products over here if there is enough noise they might make it happen sooner than later

Sounds great. Free would have been great but $290 is fair value. And I LOVE Eastern Creek. Time to start saving for the new set of tyres we'll all need.... AFTERWORDS???

Do we know if these are normal Murcott Advanced Driving days that Mazda are subsidising for highly discerning RX8 owners, or whether it is a specifically Mazda-run day (though probably run by Murcott or whoever)?

Though having a look back through the venues chosen, they do not appear to particularly be the usual Murcott fare.

the murcott site makes it look like they arn't interested in performance since they only do courses down south. their call centre told me as much when I enquired after level 2 defensive driving in bris something along the lines of "nothing is running in bris up to september and I don't know if any are going to be run after that date"

which might be why mazda has chosen someone else?

The event is being done as a joint venture with Murcotts and mazda. Murcotts don't usually use mallala, however AIR is not up to scratch for some high speed track work.

Maybe or may not be --- some other people can hire out the whole Sandom for ~$5000 per day. Event ONeill had one on Sandown last month e.g.

Murcott has too much stupid rule... it makes less fun during the day rather than an open ride.
RX-8 day will be RX-8 exclusive --- won't that be fun anyway?

RX8 smooth, as usual I'm sure attendance will require the signing of a disclaimer that you recognise that all safety issues have been addressed and that you accept responsibility for any incident involving your car

I am not talking about accidents - We all know we are buggered there. What I am saying is that by inviting us to a high speed track day such as this is that Mazda are essentially endorsing the use of RX8s in this manner. If you come in to the dealer with a blown engine a year later and they look at the logging of redlines or through the grapevine they find out you have been tracking the car they will find it very difficult to deny a warranty claim. If they try you can say "But you invited me to the same sort of track day in September"

disagree, redline is a safety limit way below where the negine can rev to. If the motor is buggered through use without any mechanical interferences during the warranty period, I don't think Mazda will have a warranty issue.

I was only using the engine as an example. It could be transmission, suspension components etc etc..........
The point is Mazda have set a precedant by organising this day that endorses the use of an RX8 on a track.

Again, I'm going to have to disagree. I'm sure that if you check the fine print of the warranty I think you'll probably find that any incident on a track will ot be covered. BMW also have an advanced day for owners of the M3, but it is not an endorsement that the car is a track car. I don't think MAzda will have made such an arrangement lightly without considering such issues. I cannot see how such an avent can be an endorsement that the car is a track car.

So you are saying that Mazda will not fix your car if a warranty issue develops arising from the use of the car on their drive day.

I don't think so.

They may attempt to limit their liability by doing disclaimers etc -but I have seen no mention of thus far. Even if they do and something happened and the matter proceeded to litigation what is the judge going to say when he hears that the day was organised by the cars manufacturer? He is going to say "PAY" It would not matter what disclaimers had been signed.

Lets just agree to disagree on this one.

I work in the insurance industry and I can name numerous examples where similar instances have happened ie disclaimers have been signed.
What happens when the thing gets to a court of law is the plantiff (us) portrays themselves as the poor unfortunate that didn't really know what they were doing. The defendant (Mazda) is seen as a big corporation with deep pockets. Guess what the guy with the deep pockets generally loses. Even if they have done the right thing. In fact the whole system stinks but that seems to be the way it is.
Anyway the chances of the cars breaking on the day are miniscule. I just want to have a great day!

Is the misuse by the customer responsible to that? That is the question debating.

If the organizer driving the car/ or the instructor, then we might have a case!

so then, why not sue the owner of the track because they provided the track and have profited in doing so, hence a case of vicarious liability.

This country has unfortunately become one where somebody else is always responsible for your misfortune regardless of you knowing and agreeing to the risks. No wonder all types of liability insurance have skyrocketed.

Smooth if those are your concerns then why turn up!
