RX-8 story "ZOOM" magazine
G'day guys.
Just completed a technical story on the 13B-MSP engine (RX-8 motor) for ZOOM magazine.
All about the operation of the engine, the how, the why, etc etc.
Now the bad news.............. Issue wont hit the streets until mid NOV apparently.
Just remember ZOOM magazine guys. I know many of you wouldn't buy a car magazine normally so make this one the exception as you will be "Full bottle" ont your RX's engine when finished reading it.

DMRH,
I hope you were able to get a few answers to your own questions with the time spent under the bonnet of my car on Sunday. If it helped, I'm pleased.
I look forward to getting the mag and reading your article.

Hey DMRH....
How about a bit of a sneak preview???
Based on your experience with the rotary, what potential do you think there is without resorting to FI to get more herbs out of the engine?

Hi there.
The biggest gains for N/A rotary performance is in the exhaust system.
RE-Amemiya (N.O-1 Jap RX shop) have already done a set of Mandrel extractors for the RX-8 & its accompanied exhaust reaps excellent gains. Couln't read the Japanese so I can't recall the power gains.
A CAT back exhaust should reap around 10Kw at least. Mazda are notorious for having restrictive rear mufflers & until proven otherwise. I see no reason for the Rx-8 rear muffler to be an exception.
Intake mods should be kept to a (high quality) filter pod intake replacing the standard air box. Ducting it with outside air would be important too.
ECU gains will be minimal but simply finding a Jap-spec ECU should reap those extra 7kw in theory (184kW). Pretty soon, there will be aftermarket ECU's available that should maintain the standard features & driveability but provide a more aggressive fuel/ignition map for better power.
Do all these together & 200+ kW should be quite possible.
Remember the old base line as an example. An EFI PP* 13B is good for up to 240kW in it's ultimate guise. Thus the 13B-MSP should not be able to exceed that without Forced Induction.
None of this is mentioned in the ZOOM story as its about the engine, not the possible modifications. A story like that is down the track..
*...Peripheral Port (intake & exhaust)
