Rx just cut out and died on me :(

Hi all

I was driving home normally just going nice and easy and the whole engine cut out on me.

I don't know what is going on.

the oil light wasn't on at all, so I don't know if it is an oil problem.

I restarted the car 5 mins after it cut out to see if it would start, it did start
but the engine kept on rattling and it felt like it was going to blow . I've only done 8600Kms in the car.

Any suggestions on what it could be?

Thanks

The DTC must have been recorded in this case, right Gomez and Hymee?

I think your dealer will be able to tell you exactly what is going on.... with their WDS (CAN scanner).

The computer must record any trouble code, hence diagnostic trouble code (DTC), into the computer and stored it (and get logged).

The WDS (or a CAN scanner) will be able to retrieve this codes and tell you what have been going on (at the time that you have stalled your car).

Hope this help. Sorry I have been brief. Please ask if there are more questions.

chauman, is your check engine light on? If so, there will probably be a DTC code stored that may explain the problem. Take the car to your dealer (maybe get roadside assistance to do it) and get them to look at the car.

This is the first reported case of the engine cutting out while driving on the Australian forum as far as I know.

Hi all

well this morning I went to check the car.

The engine light is on and is flashing...I will have to get it towed there, I don't trust driving it there.

I'll see how it goes.

Thanks , not really happy about this for a 60K car...

It may not be the car... it could be bad fuel.

Sounds like your engine has seized , lack of oil or overheated ??

cheers

Chauman,

Sad to hear that. Mine had a fuel problem when it wasn't old. I put a tank of Caltex Vortex Premium Unleaded water in it. It was laced with petrol. D'oh!

It was a few hundred bucks to get fixed, like draining the fuel tanks and cleaning the lines etc. The DTC code indicated "misfire on rotor...". Caltex paid the bills, but not without a little bit of a battle.

If it was fuel, the BP should pay for it. I use BP Ultimate 99.9% of the time now. And I haven't used Vortex since, except in an emergency

Please let us know how it goes with the service department.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Hi Hymee

It has been towed to west end Mazda service centre, labelled as abnormal engine.
I let you guys know how it goes. Really sucks though as they couldn't even give me a courtesy car. I had walk home took me 40 mins!!

Angry

No courtsey car!!!

That REALLY SUCKS....adding salt to injury really. I would have made some noises and would consider changing service dealer.

Good luck with your car. It sounds serious.

I usually get a Mazda 2, except the day I bought the RX-8 my wife persuaded them that while my MX-5 was being serviced we should borrow the RX-8. Definitely a good sales move by them : o)

Yep, Mazda2.......but to not even offer to drive you home!! Frikken 'ell, that's the minimum they could do. I can understand they may not have a courtesy car immediately available, but I at least thought Mazda Assist included a courtesy car for such events... (note to self to check out fine print...)

Yeah - that is the least they could do.

Timbo must be having contractual issues on the brain. 2 fine prints in 2 posts!

Cheers,
Hymee.
