My courtesy car last service was a Daihatsu Charade. Let me tell you that getting out of an RX8 into a Charade is a ***MOTORING EXPERIENCE***.

When I had my Range Rover, the dealer also had a Hyundai franchise and, as a Range Rover is often getting fixed, I found myself in an Excel far too often. Did nothing for my loyalty to Range Rover but at least it -- the Excel -- didn't break with normal driving :p (just another brick in the wall)

Rover, n, ... name often given to dog

Whilst my 8 was being looked over, I had the Mazda 2, Man and Auto, the Mazda3, Neo and SP23, and I had the Tribute. Yupe, the only cars I havn't driven is the MX5 and the 6

i service my car a westend as well..middle of nowhere!
they don't offer lifts and if you want a car it costs $55 bucks.

You'd think they'd want to keep their most
expensive customers happy wouldn't you?
Think i'll be heading somewhere else next.

You'd have a fight for a new car... new engine probably wouldn't be hard... if it's a major failure they'll send the engine to Japan for further investigations and you'll get a new engine. You should be compensated for the major inconvenience... got any accessories you'd like?

There has been only one other report of a dead engine in Australia... so you could say that you've been really unlucky. Do a search for posts from "Kas" to see his story.

If it happened to me now I wouldn't return my car... I've done 15000 kms and I'm very happy overall. A new engine and compenstation would keep me happy. But each to his/her own.

Hi all

Update...

Looks like I'll be getting my car back today... I don't know what was wrong with it but it required some new parts.
Since I complained to customer service. They said out of good will they will pay half the cost of my 10,000km service. How much is the 10,000km service?

Depends whether you lease or not and whether your lease company has a bulk deal with your particular dealer. Mine has, and it cost $154 from memory. If they charge over $200, I'd be looking elsewhere next time.

Another update.

Mazda call me and its worst than first though. I get a whole new engine.
They thought it was the cat convertor , so that was replaced but that didn't fix the problem.
Looks like one of the rotors wasn't working properly and the compression was gone.
No wonder I felt the car was a bit sluggish.

I probably won't be getting it back for another week.

I'm the first in NSW to have this happen...Yay for me...

You would think that they would have done an engine compression test before changing the catalyctic converter ???

At least you are getting a brand new engine we hope >

You would think that , but I don't really know much on this issue...

Yeah, but I wasted heaps of money on petrol getting it up to, 10,000kms
seems like such a waste of time now. Now I have to go through that again...

They did manage to get me a hire car , till I get my Rx back...
oh well back to automatic for a short while...

Just curious which west end, was it Nth Parramatta or Blacktown, I get my car serviced at both, and I have to admit they have been OK with loan cars and everything. Actually I take that back, Nth Parramatta is good with Loan cars, blacktown is ****, when my injectors fouled and the car had to be towed they would not even drop me back home, or pick me up when the car was fixed. They are also nowhere near the dealer which is a pain.

I have to admit at least if you buy a HSV from holden they treat you like a king, Mazda on the other hand are a little slack on that front.

Man, you don't have to run it in for 10000k's...1000k's is enough. Here's what Racing Beat (long time Mazda racers and respected rotary specialists) recommend.............Quote:

just on the weekend my car felt very sluggish going up a minor incline and at about 110km/hr my oil light came on. I think I may get it checked.

Oil may be good, mate. It goes in the top.....you take the cap marked "oil" off, and put oil in the hole. Works great, goes well.

Hey Gomez, the cars only done 4500km, had it's last service at 3600km and has plenty of oil, checked last week.

Yeah I know that, but 10000km was my mark to also get mods put on the car.
I thought it's better to take it easy for at least the first 5000kms.

Did you guys start redlining after 1000kms?
