RX8 Bashing!
Have a go at the bashing that the RX8 is copping in this thread on Ausrotary. From so called rotary enthusiasts!

I wouldn't worry too much about it Matt. From what I could see it's only a couple of noisy attention seekers with small dicks. The vast majority seem interested to see how the thing goes at Targa and are cheering it on.
I do find the entry requirement issue interesting though (cf Monaro at Bathurst). I wonder how the rules work for Targa given this 'SP' doesn't appear to be available to the public? Anyone know more?
Depending on who is pedalling the more powerful competition, it'll be fun to see how it goes down there...

It just surprised me coming from a group of supposed rotary enthusiasts.. I hadn't heard talk like that about the RX8 before and made me think about how lame some of the factory rotaries have been in the past before they became the modified weapons they are now. I didn't hear people having a dig at those models when they were stock, in fact they are prized in that form with around 100hp from factory??

I was just surprised by it that's all. I have loved ALL rotaries since I was a kid and just thought there would be a bit more respect on Ausrotary as it is to me a well regarded group of rotary enthusiasts. Don't get me wrong, I will not be losing any sleep over it.

I've been a member on that forum for quite a while.
You need to understand that most of them are either kids or old skool rotor lovers.
If it ain't an RX-3 or a FD RX-7 like mine, it's puss.
They've never ridden in an RX-8, let alone driven one.

You might like all rotors but as Gomez points out, there's various castes within the tribe who differ in their affections.
As Michael says, I couldn't give a wankel. The RX8 is not and never will be the best car in the world but if you want something more modern than the old skool stuff and it fits your budget and other needs, then it's the right car for you. Everything else is just an opinion...which, as we all know, are like ********.

If it ain't an RX-3 then it is PUSS....
Look I love Mazda's, but if anyone thinks the RX-3 was all that in standard form, they are just Dumb..
Yes, in their time the 10A (then later 12A) RX-3 was a good looking little Coupe or Sedan, at the same time the first Toyota Celica 1600cc came out, I test drove both before the RX-3 Coupe ($3,597.00 AU on road) won and that was ONLY because it was a rotary and a Mazda, apart from that...after a few years of use you needed to spend money.
The horse and cart rear suspension was a joke, the lightest and cheapest Suspension I have seen in any Mazda, the LOoooNG Shocks would tire very early in life and needed replacement otherwise the car would sag about 4 inches.
Handling was/is another non event.
Seats were crap, dashboard would crack, the plastics are Mattel Toy stuff, brakes were bloody awful, the front hinged bonnet would lift and wobble at any speed above 60 MPH, then there was the poor front wheel and strut set up,, you just accepted wheel wobble as standard.
Then came the engine Rebuilds..
In their time they were OK, but like most cars of today, and particularly the RX-8 and 7's there is just NO comparison...we have come a long way.
Yes the RX-3 is a Mazda Rotary Classic, would I own one today...no way.
A "drivers" car they are not.
They really only belong in a museum!

Just read the further posts on that thread - damn there's some deadshits in that forum. How small are some of their dicks?
Of course we want to see a more powerful RX8. Of course a factory turbo would be fantastic. Of course you can prep just about anything to be faster if you spend enough money on it.
DUH!!!!
In the meantime, it's a good thing Mazda has managed to keep the thing alive through some very tough times and hopefully the revised model will address its growing power/torque deficit when compared to its competition (not an easy class to define in any event). It's also a good thing that MA decided to enter a turbo car in the Targa to fly the flag.
Everything else is just **** stirring and wanking...

I went to lakeside today for my first sprint session for this year. I managed to get a time of 64 sec which was a lot better than some fully race prepped cars. almost everyone in the field came to check the car out as they could not believe how well it went around the track.
Most thought is was modified and was dumbfounded to learn that it was fairly stock apart from sways and semis. This car handles brilliantly. I managed to over take the faster cars on the straight when they braked for the kink while I was able to keep my pedal to the metal.
With the help of coil overs I may be able to wipe off another couple of seconds.
No matter what they say this car is far better that what Mazda has produced in the past and with FI it out perform EVOS and STI's.
skc
