I was looking on a map for the twistiest road I could find for a bit of "spirited driving". The road I found was still a dirt road on my old map, but I thought I'd give it a try and cross my fingers that it had since been sealed. Wrong. Still, 35km of twisty dirt road was fun. The DSC performed flawlessly. Almost never stopped flashing, even on the straights!

bug guts blast off pretty easily with a high pressure hose from car lovers..... maybe 3-4 seconds....

Bugs when they splatter also leave deposit of a type of acid that will damage your paintwork , driving to Melbourne and back i encountered a locust plauge.

The Hymee grill set protected my car from definite overheating the locust where 3 inches deep smashed against my front grills , THESE LOCUST WHERE FOUND EVERYWHERE EVEN UNDER THE WHEEL ARCHES .

Took proffesional car cleaners using high pressure hoses and various detergents nearly 2 hours to clean the car , the next morning i found ants all over my garage floor feasting on the leftover grasshoppers, i kept on finding them for the next couple of weeks

Unfortunately at the time i did not have my car bra , but it certainly would have helped in protecting my car .

cheers

I'm with you on that one.

I understand the "Shine and Show" people who want to keep their car completely immaculate, but it's not for me.

I don't live in a city, so stones, bugs etc are pretty common. To my eyes, bras are ugly and spoil the look of the car, but a stone chip or two just looks like the normal signs of an active life. And you can buy a hell of a lot of touch up paint for the price of a car bra.

No offence meant to those who like to baby their machines, but driving the RX8 is the attraction for me rather than the paintwork. I see paint as mainly a protective skin to keep the rust away from the metal, rather than an end in itself....

I rather like things that look well worn in and bear a few battle scars, but maybe that's just because of my own somewhat aged and tattered appearance... :D

Don't get me wrong. I don't drive with my bra on normally, and I have plenty of stone chips to prove it, but when I am driving my car on a pre-planned interstate trip, it makes sense to use a car bra when I know I am going to be sitting behind trucks on a shitty interstate highway for 10 hours. It doesn't make the drive any less enjoyable, and for the record it always comes off as soon as I reach my destination!

I think there is a big difference between people who baby their cars excessively and what we are talking about here.

I bet BVD doesn't own an umbrella either purely on principal! j/k

Can anyone say resale...
I have been down the road of having to get the front of a car re-sprayed to cover stone chips before resale/trade in, I can tell you a car bra is a hell of a lot cheaper.

But it is each to their own, you say potato I say .....your are firggin crazy :D

Actually I do own an umbrella - I just don't use it.

It lives in the boot, ready for the day that I finally remember to get it out and take it with me when I leave the car.

There's an unwavering rule that applies to the rain in Mundaring - it never rains when I get OUT of the car, but only when I'm trying to get back to it. I stand there looking through the driving rain at my distant car, thinking "There's an umbrella in the back of that.... " :D

And....

Just in case anybody thinks I'm questioning their manhood for wearing a bra on their car.... I have a complete condom that I put on mine!!

Different reason though. The car lives in a spot where the dust and dirt blows through on a regular basis, and it doesn't get used every day. By the time I go to drive it there's usually a need to at least clean the windows. The last straw was my son's visiting teacher writing "Clean me" in the dirt on the back..

So being a lazy fellow when it comes to car cleaning, I just slip the old condom on when it's going to sit for a week or more (and if it's actually clean at the time!). The 4wd in the background is the daily drive.

Maybe if I cut a hole for the driver to see out, and a couple for the brake lights, I could drive totally relaxed about the paintwork....

Each to his own...

Today's pic of the BVDmobile resplendent in its condom.... :p

To me, its a case of wieghing up driving around with your car looking terrible versus getting some extra resale value. I decided I would rather enjoy the car looking it's best, rather then only have it looking it's best when I sell it.
Putting one on for interstate trips I could live with though.

BVD - Did you buy that car cover from SuperCheap? I've got one that looks very similar which I use when the car isn't at home in the garage - ie, at work. Unfortunately we have a whole heap of rather large trees at work surrounding (and hanging over) the car park and when it rains the amount of **** that's over the car is disgusting - not to mention the damage it probably does to the paint work if I don't get it off that night. I'm disappointed with mine as it seems to leak water through. I thought the idea was that it prevented water getting on the thing in the first place!

Oh, and I'm one of those people that spends an hour each weekend washing and vacuuming my car so that it's spotless. I can't, however, imagine buying one of those car bras :-/

I drive on the interstate and hurricane affected areas. The bra has really paid for itself and people tell me it looks great. As far damage to the paint, if you follow the directions it comes with there should be no problems, like taking it off for washing and waxing.
