RX8 cracks the sub $30K barrier....

Holy crap....now I've seen it all .

Its not the first, and it certainly won't be the last. A Red 2004 6 speed red leather interior with 87,000k's for <$30K. As its an urgent sale I'm sure it will go less. This is a $12K drop from what I paid on my 04 with 30,000 ks and spoiler 16 months ago...

How much lower can it go...?

100 billion dollars lost of the stock market an inpending recession or worse a depression and you think car values should hold As Drew would say get with it Sarge

With the version 2 just around the corner you will be seeing plenty of cheap RX8"S .

Drive to a dealer and see what he will offer for your car , but make sure you are seated .

Cheers
Michael

Put it in perspective.
4 years, 87000km and just under 50% of replacement value.
It has done a lot more ks.
A car with more than 160000 km is basically worthless to a dealer.
This car is 3/5 of the way there.
Yours was 1/5 of the way there.

You got a comparatively good deal.

Unfortunately, they've been sold at Pickles auctions for well below $30k since at least mid-2006

Let's just hope they remain a niche car and don't start showing up with ugly chrome rims, bright paintwork and tigers or frogs airbrushed on their bonnets.

Relax Henny Penny.

Most cars are going to lose 50% with that kind of age and mileage. There's over 5,000 of them running around, so they're not exactly a rare collector's item.

If I got more than $25K for mine ('04, 40K), I think I'd be doing okay.

Yeah but those cars are pretty rare, unlike early WRXs and E36 BMWs etc.

Rare to me would be a car you have trouble finding at all. WRXs and the beemers have been available much longer then the 8.
When the 8 came out the price was $65-75k. And some paid for the cloth pack for $70ish. Now the price is in the 50s, I wouldn't be saying a rare car would be priced so low.
Only reason the car not so widely bought as the others is because people tend to want more power, and more space. Young people will go for the other jap cars that have a lot more boost, and the older folks eventually want a bit more room or just get rid of it at the end of the lease. (ok so I generalised but you catch the drift)

edit: yes it has 4 seats, but whoever on here has kids, also have another family car..
And I agree with all that.

Don't confuse niche with rare. If there's more than 20-40 for sale at any one time, it ain't rare. We all love our cars but to pretend they're some kind of highly sought after and prized vehicle like the exotic marques is just kidding yourself.

I think I have been misunderstood - by rare, I meant the chrome wheeled, airbrushed RX8 as opposed to the chrome wheeled, airbrushed WRX or BMW.

It hasn't met reserve yet.

I wonder if the buyer could sue him about the "Fuel Efficient" claim.

When is started looking for a RX8 early last year i could not find one under 40k with under 50k on the clock.

That is why i bought new in june 07.

The way i look at it is i paid $47850 for the car have spent a further $21000 on turbo and mazda speed body kit, soooo for under 70k i have a car with over 300rwhp and handles like a dream.

I dont think there is any other car on the market for that sort of money that would come close to the performance and handling!

Did any of us honeslty buy for resale!!

Cheers

Just drive it till the wheels fall off.

Or hope you get to the end of your insurance cover and on the night before write it off for the agreed value.

Well I was offered $35k for mine as a trade in 3 months ago with 50kms.......then was offered the same in December with 65,000kms I think....... Seeing as now it's done 68,000kms.....it's dropping in value all the time.

Cars are not things that appreciate as others have said. My grandfather once told me this, "Owning a car is like having a theif in the house" YUP I agree 100% on that one.

At the end of my lease (Jan 09) I will have a residual of $21k which is not too bad really. I should be able to get that for it. If I sell it before then like March which is what I am thinking I should be able to pull at least $35 - $39 for it....we shall see.

It's unfortunate that it's not something like a Veyron which will appreciate...only if you don't enjoy driving it....kms, wear and tear and use all make cars drop in $$. Just thank your lucky stars you don't own an Alfa.....depreciation and new Alfas go hand in hand......same with Saabs......least we own something that people want and is on their list of want to own.....

Not to put the mockers on you Julia but if you get more than $35K for it, I'd be surprised.

Maybe we should start a sticky thread for all the resale prices/trade-in deals that people achieve??

Mine is an 05 I bought it with 35kms on it.
The dealer it was at was asking $42,500 for it, I had a friend of mine that used to be a GM for that dealer call and ask what it owed them, which was 37k they sold it to him at trade out cost to his current dealership and I picked it up for 38K.

Another dealer in town had an 04 with 62kms on it for $39,500 and would not budge off the price.
That was in October.

Some people may be selling a little cheaper now with the 09 coming.
