RX8 Spotting and Fessing ..

I noticed that there's a lot of "hey, saw an RX8 at xyz.." in the various threads..

I wonder if we shouldn't just start a thread dedicated to "RX8 spotting!" ??

Could be a laugh being able to reply ( fess up ) with "hey, that was me - license plate #blah"?

And those of use weird enought to snap phone cam pix of RX8's we see about could drop 'em here to compare notes?

Could be weird if someone's car gets pinched and eyeballed in the thread!

Cheers,

++dez;

ps: anyone else wardriving in their RX8's yet?

If anyone posts "I save a velocity red 8 with licence number XXXXXX driving down blah blah, traveling at 200kmh" I'll come round and visit them personally!

By all means do the place, time, colour thing, but don't id peoples plates please - for those that like a little privacy.

(you can alway pm plates if you have the need)

Kev.

PS Dez, I drive down your way on my way to the city often, You'd drive past my place heading up the 'beaches - I haven't seen blue in the flesh yet

Kev,

yea - you're right - posting plates wasn't so bright an idea - ditch that.. what was I thinking ( clearly I wasn't I guess ).. doh!

> PS Dez, I drive down your way on my way to the city often, You'd drive
> past my place heading up the 'beaches - I haven't seen blue in the flesh yet

the past few weeks has seen me zip up to terry hills for breakfast with wife and 2yr old daughter in tow for breakfast at Buddah Belly, the odd trip resulting from "this proposal is doing my head in, why don't I drive to chatswood, down frenches forrest way, back through manyley and the spit bridge, and by the time I get back to the office in North Sydney it should make a little more sense..".

I don't think there's a back street in the northern beaches area I haven't given the old "wonder what's around this corner" test of late * sigh * - yea - I've got issues.. I know.. you don't have to say it..

RX8 dirvers anonymous: "Hi, My name is Dez, I've been driving an RX8 for four weeks now, and I can't go for more than a few hours.. without feeling like I'm going cold turkey!"

PM me a contact number some time - as I have a new RX8 afliction of late that see's me "pop" out for a spin around north or south heads, balmoral beath, the old naval base on the south end of balmoral ( neat little streach of road there to toe tap a little if you're in the area ) or just a fang around to the zoo and back - perhaps we should hook up for a coffee mid fang one evening - I'll PM ya back with my mobile.

Rob,

that titanium's not you is it?

I'll add my daily spotting of a winning blue [ parking folk tell me the fellow workes at AAMI I think it is ] and velocity red [ not a heavy tipper according to the parking staff ] parked in the secure parking space on little walker streets - anyone we know? could be fun to have a three up cruise somere over lunch.

[ yea Rob - I'm still doing 45min lunch time bursts just for fun - sigh ].

Wasn't me .. :-(

I've not spotted many this week, although I do remember a Velocity Red west bound on City West Link near Leichardt with numeral only plates .. very smart!!

I still can't believe the stares I get it this car .. after 5 weeks the celebrity factor is still 9.9 !!

I'll keep my eyes peeled!

Brisbane sightings today:

Saw a red one driving along Latrobe Tce today about lunch time. Hymee... I made sure it wasn't yours. I think it had gold on black plates. My g/f was driving.... we gave you a wave.

Saw a yellow one driving northbound on Lutwytche Rd today about 4pm. I was parked in a carpark... so you wouldn't have seen me.

My favourite is when I'm stopped a lights in town and pedestrians go out of their way to walk where they can see the badge on the back of the car to work out what it is.

I hope not! You get the post-- rule applied if you are found guilty of using a car wash :D

Relax guys..

wasn't me at that filthy [ pun intended ] car wash.. the only assistance I get washing my little blue car is a drop dead gorgeos blonde in the form of my two year old daughter..

We spent a good portion of this afternoon loving and grooming the 8 [ and mum's 323 poor old
Astina, which is soon to enter chrysalis state and morph into a Tribute [ 4wd ] after xmas )

hell... if any of you catch me taking my little blue 8 to a car wash, you not only have my permission, but my formal request to "KICK MY ***"!

I may know whose it was though.. and it's a "she" - enuf said.. ( no insult to the better gender a such.. just "this" particular "she" ).

Oh, and in the thread of "..the looks I get in this car still [ quoting Rob - hi Rob! ] - I've got to admit that albeit I once hated folk who did this, I've started driving with the little picture of the car with squigly lines on the dash, and I can't help myself on "certain" corners, steping "out" the back end just a little, for fun..

And the most fun place I've found to do this in day to day driving is a spot at the top of Essex street in the Quay in Sydney, where you turn right [ down hill ] into Essex towards George St, and there's this whapping great wall of mirror glass you can see your entire car with, and it's quite fun to come quietly around the corner, make sure there's nobody around or in the way, and "step out" the back and take a peak in the building in front's mirror windows, only to see your little 8 doing this mind blowing "drift" around the corner at slow speed - sigh - I think I've become a "rev head" - how did that happen!?

++dez;

ps: I just had a good old chuckle picturing me at that Jim Carey character in Liar Liar beathing the **** out of himself in the toilets ( or something like that - it's been a while since I saw that cruddy movie on a plane ) but in this case it was me in a car wash throwing myself to the ground repeatedly when I realised where I was.. and someone asking me what the bloody hell I was doing.. to which I would have to answer "I'm kicking my ***!" - oh boy.. I need help!

SCO, the red 8 on Latrobe Tce at about 12:15 on Saturday was most likely us! We waved at you guys. we were on our way to a Saturday lunch in Paddo after picking up some genuine German Bratwurst and Knackwurst at Heinz' butchery in the 'Gabba.

"..genuine German Bratwurst and Knackwurst.."

further evidence that the RX8 pilot is indeed a highly evolved creature of wide and varied taste.

I saw a whole bunch of them yesterday:

Interesting to note some of the subtle differences. I know why they didn't bother with the 16" wheels in Oz!

Cheers,
Hymee.

PS - Another interesting thing - They seem to have more in stock than they have sold. I asked the guy and he said he had sold 5 since they came out. I actually went there to see how much I could get some strakes for.

Those 16" wheels look so out of place. Thank god they didn't come to Australia - our car would have lost some local credibility. I'm very happy with the stock 18's though.

There's something inherantly wrong with a mazda delaer having a "glut" of RX8's - it just seems to go against all things natural..

Made for some curious pixs through. Thx Hymee.

I notice they all have orance forward indicators?

I'm pretty sure mine are clear? Will check tomorrow but I'm sure I didn't get orange..

Dez wins the banana. Orange indicators is the subtle difference I mentioned. I thought it was just a pre-production thing - i.e. the Aussie brochures have orange lenses. The other subtle difference seems to be the non-appearance of the headlight washers on the models with the fog light "option". I suppose it is a "pack" thing in Australia, used for economies of scale - i.e. the bean counters here decided on a standard pack of accesssories we would be likely to get and opted to have them fitted at the factory.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Hey, Hymee -- was that the Mazda dealer on el Camino Real at Cupertino/Santa Clara? I was there in mid-July just as they got their first delivery and a really nice sales guy showed me the various spec'd cars. They had about 10 in stock, just off the truck and detailed.

Have to say I agree the models with 16" wheels looked wimpy and I'm glad that pov model hasn't made it here.

chortle - paranomasia maxima indeed!

I was going to ask about the whole steering wheel on the wrong side until my left brain said "Hymee's in da usa doh..".

good to see my brain is still able to connect to visual input that late at night..

thank god we in AU got the clear lenses, I really really don't like the orance US version.

++dez;

ps: I'll be taking that banana fully bent when I finally meet you * grin *

pps: ****.. I just noticed I've migrated all the way from Junior member to just Member.. when did that happen.. I feel like I've lost my virginity all over again!
