Sandown raceway. I am too tired to drive the whole day.

The only RX8 representative. I am sure I am not the only rotary out there. There are one convertable FC and another FC. I am the fastest by far though. Strange.

Sandown is punishment for RX8. The front and back straight is TOO long. I can only catch them in corners.

That makes me want more of the stabilizer bars and the struts and suspension sorted out. Perheps better tyre too!~

Oh that is my helmet :D graphics from PoLak

There are some competition there:

5 Ferraris, 6-7 Porsches, 5 Lotus Elises, one RX-8, few Morgans, 2 RX-7s, one Merc SL55, one CRX (crap), one 200SX and one Golf VR6

My tutor of the day is Matt Coleman. He drove my car around Sandown and I took a movie clip. It is shaky and long but I will make it downloadable later.

The day was fun. As I said this is not the circult for the 8 and my fuel consumption make me want to cry (hitting nearly 30L/100Km) I did about 250KM and filled up once.

Well I was very fun.

I bet the RX8 day will be at Sandown as it is one of the cheapest to hire out privately.

So this was a privately arranged track day?

Nice photo's. I'm interested in your comments about your RX-8 being able to hold it's own in to corners, but not on the straights - but you are chasing suspension mods first?

Cheers,
Hymee.

Damn, I'm envious now. When I lived in Melbourne, Sandown was prohibitely expensive to hire, so all our sprints were held at Calder, Winton or Philip Island. Only got to drive Sandown once a year when the old LCCA held a thankyou meeting on Cup Day for those of us that worked as marshals at their race meetings during the year.

Fun track. And on the plus side, I can boast that I've run there in all three configurations: the old layout with the pit straight between turn 1 and what's now turn 4 (which used to be Peters corner), the full WSCC layout including the twisty infield section, and the layout they use all the time now.

I don't know if that infield section still even exists, but it appears that it's never used any more. Something to do with having to lift up the horse race track surface in two places to provide ingress and egress, I guess.

Anyway, enough blathering from me. Cool pics, and it looks like you had a great day for it.

excellent pics taka, bet you had heaps of fun amongst all those cars.

I enjoyed some spirited fun in the Adelaide hills today with a new M3 in front of me. He only managed to get some distance on me when the road straightened up, I reckon if it was a two lane road I would have gotten in front of him. This may have been a car factor or driver factor....I don't know. Just so happened he stopped at the same eatery as we were going to, he commented at how nice a car I had and how well it drove, and I was thinking I was 100K better off

But gee the M3 had some serious accelaration in the straight.

The infield section is gone mate. It becomes glass land and part of horse racing strip.

Hymee, yes I might want more power but I reckon I need to have a better exit speed. Hence, the suspension mod. And also practice.

Ageo, the Lotus there are standard S but Lotus Australia brought the 111R and the Exiege(?correct spelling) there. Fun.

Funny there were no BMWs and 350Z. Ferrari and some of the Porsche (especially the Carrera RS) were very fast. But one Ferrari had smoke in the morning and went home. One broke the rear axle and tolled off.

I am happy with the car but I can hold the straight with Porsche Boxster so I am happy. Just need better skill and suspension I can beat my friend WAY in the Boxster S. But next time my other friend with R34 (fully modded) will come too

eccles, it is a private function and it is $265 each with open session. Morning breaky, lunch and drinks provided. They have 6 instructor there as well. So I think it is pretty good. I did put up the invite --- coz there are still 3 places left the day before.

Great photos, Takahashi.
I'm curious about your lack of speed on the straight. What do you plan to do with your suspension? But no surprise that you'd kick *** in the corners. I think you'd enjoy Eastern Creek raceway. Come down to Sydney sometime and look me up; I'm curious to see how well people in here drive on the track~.

Sure Minx. Next time there is a drive day with the RX8s in Wakefield or Eastern Creek I will make my effort to come.

My lack of speed is comparing with Boxster S, 911s and Ferraris. Everyone can understand that. I can beat the 200sx and TT easily there.

I more wanted to make the turning perfect. I had Integra DC2R before and you know they have 0 body roll and I wanted to make it like that in the 8. So I am planning to get the stabilizer bars and front struts from MazdaSpeed. Suspension I am looking at Tein with EDFC (full coilover) or the new adj coilover from MazdaSpeed (depends on their price - if too much dearer than Tein than I go for Tein). I am looking for the review more. I have decided against MazdaSpeed shock as they cost $1800 for non adj shock.

Thanks for the photos and report Takahashi.

What sort of speed were you hitting on the straight in the Rx8?

I am going about 185 kmh down the straight. SOmeone did 200 plus. But even Matt Coleman only reach low 190s in his 3 laps.

I only use up to 4th gear. No need for 5th. I think the 4th is too long. I am up for a shorter gear ratio from MazdaSpeed - this is what the Best Motoring people said and I am now 100% AGREE!

i am too busy to enjoy myself to record a time. There are 2 360 Modena there and a few old Ferraris there I have no knowledge of the model.

I have taken a footage of the track and perheps I can calculate the time from there to 1/100th of a sec
