The other niggly bits are all indicative of a slack dealer who needs a rocket. I assume you'll get a feedback form in the mail. If you don't want to respond directly with the dealer, use that, and perhaps take it up with MA.

....and the clunky 1-2 shift is standard Mazda issue, we all have it.....well, most of us have it. There has been one update to the flash level in the last six months, and it would have been carried out at the time you had the Thermal Damage recall done.

I assume you have had that done, right?

Hi All,

Just got my 8 about a month ago and its time to do a service on the car.

I was about to take it to Liverpool Mazda but after reading some comments I dont think its a good idea..

Anyone can recommend me a Mazda dealer in that area? Was thinking about West End Mazda at Parramatta, are they any good?

West End Mazda in Parra did a pretty good job of my car. They actually fix problems as requested where as liverpool don't have a clue. Both these dealers charge the $300 mark includes GST.

Perhaps you could call up and tell them Rockdale Mazda service offer $240(no bull) and hopefully they can match it. Unless you're willing to take it to Rockdale which is a pain in the *** with traffic. Don't get me wrong, they do a top notch job.

I called up Liverpool mazda to check pricing and they said it will cost $366, this is for 40000km service..

Will do the same for West End..

Rockdale seems a little far, but hopefully West End will match its price

Done my 30000k service last week. At Berwick Mazda VIC,

Here is what I think:

Service: Cost $250. Inc wiper change. Rita at City Mazda quote me $230. You prob sleep with her to get your price Gomez - cost me more than $20 of petrol return trip so it is a no brainer

Ups: Respond to my request. Looked at the engine mount. AOK. Friendly attitude.
Did not overfilled my engine. Has the rest of 900ml of oil at the back.

Bonus: Has a loan Mazda 2 for free with "all you can use" petrol *(well the service lady did not tell me to fill it up) and she uses the car to go home with anyway. BTW I use $20 of fuel from that little thing and did 220km with it. So I think it worth for a free car LOL. I felt guilty and put $10 in anyway.

Disappointments: Simply reset my ECU and told me that there is a reflash. I still have the same CalID number as before. Lier.

Relief: They did not drive for 100 miles for the test run. They only did 1.8km *(which is very little if you want to see if my car runs ok)... :o I am ok if you do anything less than 10km.

Overall: It is worth going to... I guess it is only once a year I do a routine service at Mazda now.

Ah......how quickly you forget, Grasshopper . I save 30% on my service costs as my car gets fleet rates through the lease company.

My 30K service cost of $177+30%=$230.....but that included an extra five litre container of oil thrown in the boot for top-ups. The service cost must have increased in the last three months.

All my servicing, maintenance, oil, petrol and car wash costs are included in the lease deal (I don't claim the Meguires). I just told Rita to throw another five litres in the boot and to send the bill to the lease company.

I just did my 30 000km service yesterday, again at Essendon Mazda, $220 incl tyre rotation and some new software update ??? and they replaced an interior light that had stopped working.
They also absolutely spotlessly cleaned the car - And then it rained yesterday arvo
My local shop is probably City Mazda (same owner as Essendon btw) but Essendon do a sensational job so i don't mind the travel.

Called around for 40K service was quoted $360.
Done at Mazda westend parramatta for 300. Don't know if its cheap but wasn't a great service. Didn't get anything fixed like clutch click after corners, empty oil sump on startup causing repetitive ticking sound from left underside of car.
Will be getting rear left bearing replaced under warranty as there's unbearable noise coming from it.

Got my 20K done by Brookvale Mazda yesterday - Not happy.

Those with long memories will remember Rowdy going off about Brookie charging his g/f $430 for the same service and stuffing a few things up. At the time my experiences with them had been good and I tried to placate him a little.

My mistake!

I was charged $371 incl GST.

About the only positives were that they adjusted the handbrake, remembered to check for any reflash, left the residual new oil in the boot and it was ready on time (not hard since I get them to leave it locked up outside so I can pick it up at 7.00pm when I get back from work).

Negatives - no cabin filter, despite me raising this at the quick oil change service done 6 months ago at 15K and being told they'd do it at 20K. Told me the drivers door and parcel shelf rattles had been fixed - no they haven't. Supposed to have been washed but I guess they got a little tired by the time they did the sides and back because the front was still dirty.

At first I thought they might have mistakenly charged me for the time spent on rattles and coolant leaks (I had noticed the car leaking coolant the day prior so got them to check it) but no - they were all no charge items on the invoice.

Okay, I can accept the fact that Sydney dealers need to factor in the cost of Sydney premises and labour costs but this still seems OTT to me.

I trawled back through this thread (remember the service interval debate?! ) and found people had paid the following for their 20K services:

Umm, notice anything unusual guys. Like the absence of a '2' in front of the Brookie prices!!!!

For completeness, a few people have posted quotes they got for the 20K service (i.e. not actual prices paid). idolo (I think) got quite a few from Sydney dealers. These quotes were - 330, 390, 380, 330, 315, 300, 290, 267. If you search for the posts in this thread the dealers are noted. Brookie was the $300 one.

I'm somewhat tied to Brookie because they extended the warranty by 6 months provided I serviced with them. However, right now, 'Mez's earlier words in this thread are ringing in my ears:

So what do you reckon. Do I go them or not??

NOTE: 'Mez, I suggest you amend your first post in this thread to keep a running tally of prices for various service intervals.

BTW, might also be helpful if those who get a discount for any reason post the 'normal' cost. For instance, I remember reading that 'Mez gets a discount. This makes some of the service costs quoted above a little misleading.

Hi mate, sorry to see you've been stung.

Their labour rate is very high, or they are very slow. Looks as if they've charged you for three hours, which is excessive. The oil cost is OTT too. I need to double check the wiper refill price....I believe they may have charged you for the replacement of a SINGLE wiper blade...!

I got two Mazda quotes the other day for a 70,000km service. One was around $150 (Grand Prix, Aspley) and one was around $180 (Centenary, Taringa).

Umm, I think I can explain that...

One of the few times I've taken the car through a so-called non-scratch automatic carwash (I know, sacrilege but sometimes convenience and laziness are a powerful combo - Waldo will kill me if he reads this ), one of the flappy bits on the roller thing (these are technical terms okay!) grabbed the driver's side wiper arm and left it sticking up after it had passed over.

It would have been funny to watch - there's me screaming in the car and cursing the damn thing. Then, knowing the dryer boom is yet to come through, I wound down the window (luckily the jets had stopped) and frantically tried to reach out for the arm to slap it back down. No chance. Meanwhile, the dryer thing has fired up and is heading my way so I overcome all common sense and leap out of the car to flick it back down.

Turned on the wipers upon exit and the blade made this awful, "Leave me alone to die in peace" noise. Upon checking it I noticed it had twisted the arm a little so I opened up a can of elbow grease and twisted it back down again. Wipers then worked fine and the arm looked okay so I didn't bother raising it with the service station guy where the carwash was located.

Funny thing is the wipers have since been fine (this was a few months ago). Maybe the service guys thought the blade was worn or something.

Dave, I got the cabin filters replaced for free after my 20K service. Because I had to take the car back in a second time, I wasn't charged. They retail at about $40 for the pair, and take less than a minute to replace.

If I were you, I'd expect the same service from your dealer. As you know, time is money.

I'll give it a try but I notice Rowdy never got a discount from them so I doubt I'll be that lucky.

Subject to their explanation of the cost and whether they sort out the other stuff like the filter and the rattle (I've sent an email), I think it's time to forgo the extra 6 months of warranty and go elsewhere...

I think the reason why Melbourne 20K service cheaper because.

Labour is 1.5 hours = $170 max
5L engine oil is $55.
Oil filter is only $9 in Ringwood.

...... I think because you earn more working in Sydney, it is logical that you pay more

The cost of living in general is a lot higher in Sydney. House prices are crazy.

No wonder a high proportion of couples have to abandon kids in daycare just to make ends meet.

The migration to Queensland has been the answer for a lot of desperate families.

So, yes it is logical that you would pay more for service in Sydney.
