Selling RX-8 Advice Sought
Hi Guys,
Does anyone know the best place to advertise an RX-8 for Sale? I've posted on carsales.com and the autotrader website but have had no enquires. Have I priced it too high? It is 2003 leather pack, manual with accessories: Rear Spoiler, Front & Rear Rotary crests, Fender Strakes, Exhaust Finisher, Aluminum Scuff Plates. Custom number plates. I've priced it at $40,000 figuring I'll let it go for $38,000. Have prices dropped that much? I see it advertised for similar amounts. It is fairly low mileage at 29,500. Financially I don't really have to sell it so I'd rather keep it that let it go for less. I've just run out of garage space.
Thanks for any advice you may have.
Cheers,
Will

I just spotted your car on autotrader - its in pristine condition.
Price looks good and if you need a quick sale why don't you advertise $38,000 firm?
I'm sure if you lived in the eastern states you'd get a pick up....your population ratio may be having an play in this....be patient.
Why do you want to sell?

I really hate to sell it but I've wanted a convertible for a long time and a good deal came along on a Boxster so I bought it. I have to keep another car for the dog and my garage only holds 2 cars. I don't really need 2 sports cars anyway. But if I don't get my price then I'll be extrvagant and have 2.

Sorry to say that I reckon an 03 leather pack will only go for between 35 and 38k. Redbook has them at between 37 and 42k (http://www.redbookasiapacific.com/au...p?key=MAZD03CY), but the last 2 cars I have sold privately went for the trade in price not the private sale price and that was after holding out long time.
Remember that you can pick up an 06 leather pack for < 50k. Good luck with the sale though.
Cheers

It doesn't sound too promising, but I appreciate the replies. Mazda hasn't been too good to their RX-8 customers, first they make a family sedan with more power, then a hatchback with more power and then cut the price on the RX-8 to kill re-sale values. I just hope their cutomers remember this with their next flagship model. I'm sure I will.
Cheers guys!

I'm with Andrew unfortunately you are going to struggle at that price. All the accessories you bought when you bought the car can't be recouped now...as my accountant says, buy nice things additional to the cost of the car or burn the money it's the same...
Good luck selling it tho. I agree with you about Mazda and the $ of the car...as many on here will too. That's life hey, why we don't invest in dailys!

The book says anywhere between $27000-$48000.
Expect the lower end of that if you're selling privately if your car has done about 50-60k ... the higher end if you write your car off and you're on a market value policy.
Hate to break it to you, but brace yourself and expect the worst!

Whelton,
I sold my 2003 Yellow RX-8 in January. I had all the mods with 56K on the clock. I got $39,000. I advertised on Carsguide.com for $41,000 and I had 4 enquiries in the first week, 3 the week after and sold it. I had 2 offers of $38,000 in the first weekend.
I would try cars guide, I did their most expensive ad, about $30, it places it at the top whenever someone searches for an RX-8, worth every cent (Not expensive either).
Remember follow sale prices not opinions, I would try carsguide and pitch it at $39,500 if you want...but your asking price is spot on in my opinion.
Cheers,
Gibbo.

Good luck.
I hope resale stays strong on these cars. That is one reason I bought the 8.
If mine is worth $20000 after 5 years I will be very happy.
As a buyer I wouldn't pay more than $30000 for it (3 years 60% of new value is right at the top of resale values)

From your perspective. Its not a good feeling to lose on the price you paid.
However, the blame lies with Mazda Australia's ripp off selling price (again).
Since they are only $26k - $31k NEW in Japan. Its hard to outlay the money knowing you are being stung. So its unlikely that the RX-8 will command an amazing re-sale price here but it wont be as bad as comparable cars from the same price range.
Rotary power has always held price better than its direct opposition on the market.
Having said that.
Am just waiting for the "used" pricing to drop to the point where I can get a low KM auto model in Blue for around the $30k area. Any takers.....???
PS. Be patient on your sale if you have time up your sleeve.

Well I didn't have much interest in mine. Managed to get rid of it about two months ago for $41k - 04 model (reg 05) with a few options and 20k on the clock. I did sell it through cars guide.
As Mazda has stabbed recent buyers in the back by offering 07 models for about $52k and running out 06 models for less than $50k, I'd be surprised if you got more than $35k.
Having said all that, you've said you're not in a rush so stick it on there and see what happens. Good luck.

If you have a look at the link the car is in mint condition.
Auzoom (Andrew) and I agree though...be prepared for $38,000 but with the car in such good nick... you might get lucky.
Its in Carsguide.com.au under the heading "MAZDA, RX8, plus Leather Trim FE1031 COUPE $39,500"- 29,500 kms (The link was too long)
Hang in there Whelton.
All good things come to those who wait.....

Well, smaller market, so you might just have to wait longer for a buyer to come along who is prepared to pay the price you want.
In the meantime, enjoy it.
