The look of the new one is growing on me a bit more now.

Dr Gonzo is right ... the front bar looks a bit like a 997 especially on the sides. I still think it looks like a peugeot though.

Cannot help but wonder if the body-hugging Recaro sports seats that help to keep the driver secure during cornering will hinder the entry and exist from the car ?

Cheers

No but on my bad days when i am not feeling 25 , the RX8 CAN BE A HANDFULL EXCITING AND GETTING IN GRACEFULLY with the Recaro seats it could be even harder especially in a incline...... also if i am lucky enough to score a BJ the recaros could get in the way

Cheers

things seem to be going more towards styling as a desciding purchase factor, many share engines, chassis, components, its the design that splits them apart, how may cars are built from the golf platform?? more than 15 ??

Having got my 8 just before the end of last year after reading all the rumours on the forums... i kinda feel a little vindicated in my decision!

Price is the main thing i feel I won on though, beating the qld stamp duty rise and the fact this new model is probably gunna be back up to the higher rrp.

I dont mind the new look, and I"m sure in the flesh it'll look alright. The wheels are hot and I really like those taillights, although something about the rear bumper looks weird in the pics.

I really dont like the wheel though, one of the main things i hated about the NC mx5 as well! It looks out of place in the rx8, should be more triangular with the whole rotor thing.

I concur, two people can lay down in our passengers seat but this would have the Recaro curvature always up your ***...

Not very user friendly if you want to lay back and have a rest, or ....

The problem with the Sandman were the sand granules and peculiar smells when you jumped into the back of one...

I feel sad. Not only because my wife was right, but also because I don't fit the RX-8 demographic. My wife said that Japanese car makers are incapable of improving on the styling of a model with the "upgrade". I have to admit, she has been proven correct.

I clearly don't fit the revised RX-8 demographic because I am a lover of simplicity and clean lines. The v.2. looks heavy and shovel-nosed, and has lost that light, agile look. I've ranted on here before that a spoiler is a stylistic affectation, at least at Australian highway speeds. The revised Audi TT has a small one which automatically deploys when the speed is greater than 120km/h, which is acknowledgment of its limited practicality in everyday use.

What is it about Japanese car makers that they have such problems in continuously making really good looking cars? Why can't they get it right two times in a row? The original MX5 (Miata) is a style icon, in that it is exhibited in the New York Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). The v.2. MX-5 was a stylistic disappointment, with only the latest v.3. showing a return to something like good looks. Frankly, if I was required to choose on style only, I'd pick the latest MX-5 over the revised RX-8. The original Toyota Celica (OK not a sports car) was a pretty thing, with the two later versions progressively worse. The list goes on and on, with Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi all represented. Remember how godawful clunky the 300ZX's and Supras became with each iteration? And there are makers who've never ever got it right, particularly Subaru and Lexus. The Integra is prof that Honda could also never get it right.

Contrast this with the improvement of the BMW Z4 over the Z3 (I'm glad that Jeremy Clarkson has come around to my point of view that the Z4 is a pretty car). The new Audi TT is now a real looker. The v.2. Boxter is nicer than v.1. (but then, has Porsche ever made an ugly sports car?). If I had the money, I'd go for a Cayman in a flash.

Why Mazda bother to have a Californian design studio I don't know, because clearly they're not listening to them anymore. It can't cost any more to make a good-looking car, the amount of sheet metal and plastic is the same.

I guess I'm sufficiently confident of my masculinity not to require that my car looks like an extension of my dick. My ideal car would express feline grace and agility - pity I'll never be able to afford an Aston Martin.

I think mazda did well with the FD revisions, but the new SE sucks. although the wheels are really nice!

I wonder why they didn't use the mazda 2 styling it has wonderful lines.

Not for me...

Well I have to agree with the majority....this new facelift.....well somehow the surgeon got it wrong :-(

I did notice that on the cloth they have a rotor shaped back adjuster for the seat...other than that I don't like this inside of the car......don't like the seats...like the new Honda Civic Type R try putting your seatbelt on without dislocating your shoulder to get the belt over the wing on the seat...nope they don't work for every day driving....

I don't like the exterior styling...looks like it should have a pack of winnie blues tucked under it's wing...... nope it's gone from sleek and sophisticated to bulky and fat looking........don't like this upgrade....what where they thinking....and I won't pay what I have read Mazda are expecting to sell them for here in Oz...... I bet there still is no IPOD jack for the stereo and that really ***** me....they are electronic world leaders and they won't even put one in their cars.... the new Landrover Freelander has one...albeit there is nothing else going for that car really otherwise....

What to buy next........

And what is it with that fat black plastic over the top of the grille??!! Double yuck.

Oh well, at least we're now comfortable with waiting until it gets here. No baited breath from this little black duck...

Nice find.

That silver front end is looking MUCH better than the crappy blue one (IMHO).

A couple more detail shots of the front end and the new rims (which I personally think looks better than the current ones)

The detail shot just confirms my distaste of the crappy black plastic and bling bling chrome bits. Also hate the reflectors over the exhaust for that matter.

As for the rims, always a VERY subjective issue but I think they belong on a transformer toy.
