slight accident
I was sitting at the lights at a major intersection yesterday. I had been there for a couple of minutes. I was stopped, the BMW 330CI next to me was stopped, the Falcon Ute behind me was stopped. Everyone was stopped. The lights were just about to go green when I get shunted from behind.
The guy in the Falcon had taken his foot off the brake in his auto. My 8 got pushed forwards about 3 or 4 feet.
It actually took me a minute to find the damage, a slight disfigurement around the numberplate area, and a small split in the rear bumper in the half way up near the right side.
Not noticeable unless you are looking at it.
Anway, completely the other guys fault - so I'm guessing my insurance and rating won't be touched.
Any idea if they will nead to replace the bumper, or can they actually repair small damage and paint match these days?

Sorry about that dude. I guess you can claim for a new rear bumper.
My friend has someone reverse back to his Boxster S and the bastard's insurance paid for my friend to have a upgraded (after teh Boxster S had a face lift) front spoiler.... not recommanded method to get your mazdaspeed front spoiler though

Just went to a crash repairer (who happens to be across the road from where I work, next to the Volvo dealership) and he reckons he would like to replace the entire bumper.
He also thinks he can colour match the velocity red paint. What do you think his chances are of the colour match?

while you are there, ask him about a 3rd party insurance claim for you, he will know what it is if he has done it before.

Because I work in an area with expensive cars, he positions himself as a "premium and late model" repairer. There is a Boxster and an Audi A6 in there at the moment. I suppose he has done pearl paints before ...

Your car is not to old so the paint would not be that hard to match.

Well, from my recent experience with the idiot kid not watching and running into my parked car with his bike...if they replace the bumper make sure to insist, not suggest, but INSIST they repaint all panels that contact the replaced part to ensure color matching. Also, do not be afraid to ask how many three stage paint jobs they have done and references from those repairs. I found a great shop and cannot tell the front bumper was replaced except for some rough edges at the oil cooler intakes. This is unavoidable due to the parts coming pre-primed and would add considerably to the repair to have them sanded and re-primed (insurance would not pay for the extra labor). Also, if they do not tell you, you are not supposed to wax the new paint for 90 days to allow the paint to breathe to release particulates generated by the paint fully bonding to the surface. If you would like more info feel free to PM me... good luck.

rev it up
How about going to your dealer for a recommended repairer. Currently this person would be engaged in spray painting all the accessories such as spoilers.

ahh sheesh, harsh man.
If it makes you feel any better, some ******* keyed my friend's 911. He'd only had it for a fortnight, he left it 10 minutes at a Westfield parking, comes back and there's this huge scrach from the front to the back... ... ...
Seeing as the 8 is _the_ car to have at the moment, (heh, we all agree on this one) it shouldn't be too hard to find a perfect match. Velocity red's not a hard colour to come by. So good luck, if not, new bumper.

City Mazda in Adelaide told me to go to a Ford dealership (Maughn Thiem) who can do an exact match - that is who they use for fender strakes etc.
Anyway, I got a quote from that first company - $1200 for the bumper replaced, fitted, and painted.

Hi Guys....its a good Idea to see if there is any other damage behind the bar cover eg ...bumper reinforcements beaver panel ect...make sure this is checked out too ....to move 3 or 4 feet forward is a fairly big shunt !!!
