Somebody Stop Me
The modding monster is after me again.
It won't be really happy until it get's fed FI, but I can't afford that atm and need to throw it a bone in the meantime. Hell, I'm even looking at bodykits, which isn't usually my thing.
As I've decided a brake upgrade is more vanity than function (not that there's anything wrong with that
), and extra cooling can wait until I go nuts with FI, I've been thinking about suspension again. So far, that's been limited to Whiteline sways.
The default option is some electronic shopping on the japanparts site. In seconds I can click the boxes for some MazdaSpeed springs and shocks and have them delivered for under $2K. I could also double the money and get the R Magic Ohlins adjustable coilovers, but since I'm not tracking, that seems an indulgence.
So, should I click the MS boxes (so easy, so convenient, so dangerous
), get other shocks and springs (and if so, what
) or try to keep the monster caged (
) until FI is affordable?
Bear in mind that I don't want to go super low. The 20mm drop offered by the MS option is about what I'm after.

I think if you want to do ur next mod, now that you have already got the whiteline swaybars, perhaps go for new shocks and springs or coilovers. They would compliment your sways and its both looks and function. Looks as in the car will look great lowered (non 4wd look hahah) and the drive will be heaps better also. So you can justify well spent money there.

theres the tein flex option..... if u want coilovers
but then ur lookin at shocks and springs now... you can look into konis aswell
perhaps taka is better at answering this question hehe
the 20mm drop is decent, perhaps would settle another 5-10mm over time, which is still good clearance. mine was 45mm drop, plus the front skirt made me drop about 60mm lol now im 40mm drop

Dave, get the Tein Superstreet coilovers (only just softer than Flex and almost 1/2 the price) or get the Buddyclub N+ which BelGarage, Croydon seem to be recommending a lot.
Its more robust than the Teins and the height is adjustable without actually compressing the springs. The only downside is that you wont be able to adjust the damper settings electronically as only Tein's have that option. (EDFC).

I will get the MS spring and shock. Revolver has no permission to go to track anymore so adjusting is not as useful. But having said that my Flex at full soft and full firm - people sitting next to me can tell -=-- very much so.
Tein Superstreet will be too harsh for you IMHO.
I think lower the car is very nice and money well spent

Ultimately anything you do for your car besides FI will amount to all show and no go...

I otherwise agree that FI is the only way to go for more performance but to suggest all other mods are "all show" is a bit simplistic. Handling is always worth playing with and I would never give back my RP short shifter - neither fit the "all show" category.
Thanks for the suggestions guys/gals. Keep 'em coming.

Of course it's over-simplified, but that is really what they amount to. For example, my swaybars are great, I enjoy them, but it isn't nearly as fun as woooooooooooooooooshing by with the turbo ![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Also, what's wrong with greddy?

As for the GReddy, what Kall said and I'm still hopeful that the supercharging options will multiply by the time I'm ready to do it.
So, back to suspension options...

Sure - I must have misread what you were asking then. I thought you debating going FI or buying other stuff.
Having bought a ton of extra crap, I spent as much on misc stuff as FI. Looking back, the extras only put the FI further out of reach. Instant gratification is a harsh mistress

if its just shocks and springs ur looking into, do you really want to import it? have a look around here first and see what you can buy thats already provided in syd and compare prices. dont forget to add labour. labour is the problem half the time.. the rear of the 8 is tricky and probably recommended you go somewhere where they already have experience in doing the rx8, as like i said the rear is a pain in the butt and could take someone who hasnt had much experience in it a lot longer and charge you more time $$
doesnt rick shaws offer suspension kits??

Reason tells me to ignore the monster until FI can be paid for but it's a persistent bugger.

I guess it just seems easier to pick up the MS stuff, knowing it's been developed for the 8, without having to worry if something else is going to be as good for the money.
Ric Shaw might be worth a visit though. Good idea.

imagine how effectively you can blow carbon deposits out your engine when you are generating 300whp vs 180whp

Yes, tell your friends you did it so you can maintain your car better. I'm not sure my GF bought that story...

I am in two minds whether to punt some more $$ now on something like suspension or save my pennies until FI is an option.
