Fair call, I'll keep looking for some local options, am going to check out an importer over the weekend who does a lot of work for the 7 & drift crowd. PS good luck with the whitelines, really liked what they have done for mine!

Eric has been busily finding leads on second hand wheels for me, which I'm gonna follow up today (thanks Eric ).

Will keep you posted. However, somehow I don't think only 2 of us is gonna change the price terribly much.
Rev,
Some quick calculations show that if you get them from TireRack.com, you will be AUD$3410 / AUD$3500 out of pocket... That's to your door all taxes inclusive!!! 18x8.5

So lets just say you can't be bothered importing them youself.. Make that AUD$3700. save yourself $500 and you can buy them from an importer in Sydney :D

I've now made enquiries with several importers and am waiting for quotes to come in.

Tirerack do not carry Volks Racing Wheels so if I buy from them I'll have to get the SSR's.

Umm, Mike, I don't think you want them TE37's anymore, at least not in Mag.

Just heard back from Mu's Secret again.

His quote for TE37's at $4,200 for rims alone was for the regular forged alloy variety. He's told me that if I want Mag's I've got to stump up $7,600!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .

He's also told me a set of SSR Type C's (Competitions) will also cost $4,200 for the rims alone.

Still waiting on other quotes to come in but if that's the ball park for new ones I'd prefer to save my money and see if a good second hand set turn up.

LJ, otherwise I think I'm going to go the direct route like you did and pay full freight for the SSR's but get the tyres for free (if you know what I mean ). However, the more I look at SSR's, the more I think that I'll probably get them in silver instead of the anthracite. Personal preference, I know.

Well, it seems the more people I ask the higher the price gets.

This is the response I got from Stamford Tyres:

Please find the following the recommended prices for both the TE37s and the TE37 MAG (Magnesium wheels):

18-8.5 V/R TE-37 5/114.3 +40 front $1,070ea

18-9.5 V/R TE-37 5/114.3 +40 rear $1,100ea

Total $4,340.00inc GST

Colours Bronze & White

It will cost an extra from $250 for special colours depending

18-8.5 V/R TE-37 MAG 5/114.3 +40 All round $2,830ea

Total $11,320.00inc GST

Only comes in Dark Blue

Please note that the wheels will be delivered to you at no extra cost if delivery address is within the Sydney Metropolitan Area. Please note that the wheels have to be ordered directly from Japan and it will take approximately 8 to 10 weeks for them to arrive.

Please contact me if you require any further information.

Remember, that's for rims alone. These people have to be kidding themselves.

Hey, who wants to start an Aussie company making good quality light-weight wheels?? Sounds like the importers (and Ray's Wheels for that matter) could do with some competition.

The first set of light weight wheel with equal strength you will make in Australia will cost a bit lower than the TE37 mag wheel. It is too expensive to start a high tech company like the Ray Engineering. Their RRP price is 67000 Yen; so it's about $850 each. So you are paying more than $300 for shipment and agent fee.

How long can you hold for a set of new wheels? Do you want me to hunt a new set of TE37 in HK? PM me...

I'm in no mad hurry. I really wanted to get an idea of pricing so I could budget for it with a view to purchasing in say a couple of months time. Of course, if a good second hand deal turns up I'll apply some forced spending strategy .

So feel free to see what's on offer in HK. Much obliged.
