Thank god for that.

OK then to check if your passenger mirror is convex, take a credit card, hold it horizontal and slide one edge across the face of the mirror. If you can't keep the whole edge of the credit card in contact with the mirror you have a convex mirror.

If you have any problems with this PM me with the details. (Including the credit card # and expiry)

Happy to help

You sorta indicated a preference with this quote below....

Right mirror - large house behind me with a perfect triangular roof.
Left mirror - smaller house behind me with a perfect triangular roof - no distortion. Also I see more of the house than the other one.
Rear mirror - same size as the right/driver side mirror.

So is this convex, or not? My car was built at 1230 on 30 Sept 2003 a/c to the factory. It took 4 days. and was on the ship to Oz 7 Oct 2003.
Sounds like a convex mirror to me.....thanks for the build date confirmation Taka! So from this we can deduce that sometime between July and September '03, Mazda started rolling out Australian RX-8's with wide angle passenger mirrors. And that sco's car is rarer than the ultra-rare yellow RX-8's, as his has two convex mirrors!

L&L will be spewin' :D

Regards, Gomez.

OK - I just went out to get Hymee parts at lunchtime. To be honest, I didn't even think about checking the "different" views while on the road. When I got back however, and I was about to back into my spot (with the besser block wall on the pax of the car)... I looked in my LHS mirror. It all looked nice and in proportion, no distortion. I noticed the sign on my car park (on the back wall). Then I looked in my drivers mirror. The sign was noticiable bigger. And the bricks as well. Eek! I don't think it is cause the LHS mirror is 2m further away. I must have a queer eye. Must remeber to get the card out next time.

Such trival matters. Who would bother posting this sort of stuff :o

Cheers,
Hymee.

Sorry - I miss the herring association :embarrased:
At the moment... wet. Driving a Ford Mondeo diesel... man I miss my '8. The Mondeo has no guts and is geared wrong... I'm rocking the gear stick to just to get the thing driveable. Fuel is about 84p a litre... at least the diesel runs on the smell of an oily rag. Getting 49 mpg.

Having owned 2 RX8s (I love saying that!@!) I can confirm

Both in car 1 (build August 03) and in car 2 (Build Aug 04) that the pax mirror reflects a smaller image with a larger field of vision than the drivers side and the main cabin rear view mirror because the Pax side is SLIGHTLY convex.

OF course I had the mirrors fitted as an option as my children are now too tall to be taped to the doors without impacting the aerodynamics and drag coefficient factors.

C'mon Rob....Hymee fitted your grille ages back....no need to suck up now :D .
The LH mirror is MASSIVELY convex, and as the experienced owner of two RX-8's, you know that better than everyone else! Rofl!

Cheers, Gomez.

Edit: Oooooh, I get it....the new one doesn't have a grille on it yet?!!!

I may as well close this thread. Since I was w - ww- wr- wro... Umm - under the effects of intercontinental travel

I'd say I noticed it more in slammer's car as it was abnormal to me, so the contrast was more striking.

I reckon it is mildly convex. :p

Cheers,
Hymee.

PS - Pricer - why the newy? I might have missed a post or twenty. A new batch of Grill kits currently are in production at the moment. And you did wish you had your cheque book when you saw the ewxhaust that day in North Sydney. :D

I was wrong about the drivers side mirror - it is not wideangle at all. But who cares, I'm back driving my '8 and wasn't getting back in it a real treat, except I keep hitting the wipers instead of the indicators having finally got used to the european config on the mondeo I was driving.

Haven't redlined it yet seeing it sat in a friends garage for a few weeks without being started. Topped the oil up before I started it and having been driving gently.. but it's now about time for a good WOT or three.

Gosh, and I was really enjoying this thread, too. Was concerned about the effect of a slight knowledge discrepancy on the part of our fearless moderator, but put it aside until.......

........... I read he had also taken part in and completed a Triathlon

Mid-life crisis methinks :D

Me? Well, I've had mine. And noticed the pax mirror was convex at day 1 (taka -- add to your list of ten things!). But it doesn't have that cute "objects in this mirror may be closer than they appear" which featured at its best in the movie "Jurassic Park" :p

Hymee, did you notice while in the States that the fuel swirls into the tank in an anti-clockwise direction???

Aaah, it's great to be back discussing the really important stuff :D

Hi sco

Am back from Europe this week too, I had a Renault Megane diesel (1.5dCI) and ran up 300oks through France. The worst fuel economy I got was 6.2L/100k, but mostly 5.2-5.4.

I have now had two days of wipers instead of indicators, and I nearly did a reverse donut out of the garage having forgotten the precise clutch, throttle and gearshift of the 8 after the Renault -- not to mention the power. :o

But, I have to say, that little Renault would happily sit on 175kph+ on the autoroutes. At thos fuel prices -- while I wished I had my 8 there -- I would not have liked to be paying for its fuel.

BTW, did not see one French 8 in 3 wks
