There are different noises. There varying levels of blower whine with a screw, when you are on boost. At WOT / max boost, you get a more whine. When you are off boost, you don't get any. When you are on a bit of boost, you get a bit of whine.
Cheers,
Hymee.

Blower Whine = Intoxication
I'm just lurking here. I'm currently driving a Miata with a Whipple, twin screw SC, as done by Flyin' Miata. At some point in the next couple of years, due to OBDII issues, I'm going to have to give up the Hydra/Ubercharged Miata. The RX8 looks like it would be a natural progression, but I'm going to try & hold out for a Roadster variant, that will quite likely be SC'd.
I'd like to add that the blower whine from a twin screw is positively intoxicating & addictive! Let the turbo guys drive up & puff you with their BOVs. Just push the go pedal & let them listen to the banshee sound (OK, maybe not that loud!) of your car pulling away! I'm in no way advocating doing bad things on the street, but there have been a few wide eyed expressions seen in the rear view mirror.

It's each to his own of course, but I really don't like BOV puffs and hisses -- a bit 'steam era' to me. I'd much rather the uninterrupted grumble/roar/below/scream of a highly tuned NA engine -- BMW M3, a well-developed LS1, any Ferrari V12...and Ducati motor bikes :o

At the other end of the scale, a worked 351 Cleveland being used in anger is also a great sound.

But hey, vive la difference. Would be dead boring if we all liked the same thing.

Turbo cars are (at the moment)obviosly more popular than blown right?so i guess there arn't many cars that are blown, and i have to admit i havent heard a lot of blown cars anyway,so you guys might have a point with what you sayi.i guess i am not totally convinced then(about turbos sounding better)maybe i just havn't come across one that i like yet(blown car).and when i do i might just sit on the fence at the moment.
