AU sus engine failure report

anyways people might know from my other post that i've dropped my car off for a few mods.

Anyhow, gave a call today to see the progressive of the work.
Simon stated to me that the car "wont" start.

He said my engine prob failed and need a rebuild.

Something about cold weather enhances the carbon build up and stops the spring or something

A compression test is needed.'

Look i believe Simon is a great guy, but does this sound slightly bs? or is it realistic ? to me it sounds like a stall for time?

Has one of his pimply apprentices moved it 10 feet and flooded it?

Assuming a rebuild simply because it won't start sounds strange to me...

HAHAHAHA, they're rotary noobs. $300 for a flood would not be good though. Flooding does no damage in itself. Decarbon?

Once when im overseas (spring cleaning by uncle)

this is BS - pure and simple .
They don't know how to deflood your car and are making up bs so they don't look bad . You need to "help them" by giving them the deflood proceedure

As I said earlier, I'll bet that some dickwad moved it to get to another car and forgot to rev it to clear the unburnt fuel.

Carbon buildup can occur if the car isn't revved regularly enough and I have heard of it being a problem on autos but I think $300 is OTT for a fix.

This is ProMaz, yes? Good rep on here but I'm starting to wonder...

Angry

mmm look guys, im not trying to bash promaz, they have done good things.

But its abit hard to come to terms, the fact my car is flooded by them. Afterall he owns a rx8, and one of the premium rotary mechanics in melb.

Well the 300 i dont have that much of a issue with, decarbonising wont hurt anyways, and always wanted a compression test run.

But i redline everyday, and the fact is my car was due for collection tomorrow, it was dropped off on thursday, the fact is i call to check how its going, and hearing things like *engine failure* wasnt very pleasant in the morning

So main reason for this thread, was to double verify if the engine *should* be failing

It isnt a bash on Promaz, but rather a combination of fact finding and anger venting.

I'm wondering if they fitted the LT10 and that is why they flooded it . Have heard some horror stories a while back about shops trying to fit that ecu to the rx8 .
Hope they have done it before - successfully .

haha funny thing is. Nothing have being touched yet. NOTHING. (no mods/service)

And nah not worried by the LT-10 they have good experience with it, (since they supply their turbo kit with it).

This sounds a bit far fetched to me ... $300 for a decarb and compression test sounds a bit excessive.

HAHA ... I thought your engine was already blown up :D

Yeah, try the Motul stuff ... it will feel a little more responsive!

sounds like BS to me ... if the engine needed a rebuild, you'd have the "engine failure warning light" come on wayyyyyyyyy before it needed a rebuild.
as for engine oil, i'm using 5w-40 and runs fine in brisbane weather.

I wonder how they "decarbon" the engine? I know back in my two-stroke boat motors days, the shop used to spray some decarbonizing aerosol spray into the airbox, and rev the ring out of it. Took all of 5 mins.

Pretty much the same thing ... you spray in a degreasing agent like carbie cleaner or engine degreaser through a points such as the PCV valve, and the air intake while the engine is running (without stalling the engine) as well as adding a similar agent to the engine oil and rev the engine for a few minutes ... maybe take it for a short drive?

Blows smoke for a while ... then it dies down.

There are products out there such as Seasol which are made specifically for this ... but they don't cost anywhere near as much as $300! More like $30!

In fairness I think he was also quoted for a compression check. Still expensive for $300 for both bits of work but in total it'll be more than 10 minutes work and $30 odd in materials...

Isn't that why we all bought a sports car in the first place?

Ssshhh! That's our little secret, mmkay?

Actually, if I count the cold shoulders I've received after 'er indoors found out about yet another mod and what it cost, it's probably hindered my root development...

Gasp. Stock manuals are around the 120 mark, couldn't you have gotten a knee transplant instead of an auto??????????
