You can do that, let us know how it goes!

Apologies for the slip, it's actually called Sea Foam.

Flooding can damage your RX-8.

When the car ultimately starts, the EGT can reach very high temperatures with all that fuel burning in the exhaust. Catalytic converters have been reported as glowing red hot after a flooding incident.....a much shorter cat life is the end result.

Agreed, simon does do a good job.
At your expensive though, but i guess with experience comes the right to demand for extra $$$

Flooding causes the cat to collapse, or in my case it was the other way around. My cat collapsed, which caused the flooding! No idea why it failed though.

Jason, never feel bad about questioning something that makes no sense. One thing about Simon is he is very expensive, but reliable. Also be aware that he will ALWAYS state up front a ridiculous price, but when it comes to actually paying the bill it tends to be a little more reasonable.

For those that aren't aware, Simon/ProMaz were one of the first to bring out a turbo kit for the 8 worldwide let alone in Australia. He is the one that originally produced the P&P harness for the LT10s and was at one stage shipping it worldwide (May still be). People may not like the LT10S/Interceptor but it gets the job done, is reliable and achieves good results. Simons turbo cars are putting out 200rwkw reliably on 11psi.

As for the decarb, he uses a product similar to seafoam. The "Rebuild" was, from what I can make out, a continuation of the fact he believed you were running low comp due to being carbed up I(the spring comment from what I can tell is him explaining the springs under the apex seals not being able to do anything becaus ethe seal are carboned to the rotors). I can only assume that he was thinking along the lines of "We need to do a decarb and if that doesn't work, you may need a rebuild to fix the carbon build up or low comp. To me a reasonable conclusion.

In the end, from what I can tell the reason it flooded was a combination of a weak battery and low compression.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Andrew

yea exactly.

Whole point of the post was questioning a few things.

Look i doult simon is lying to me or something, it was just that i got confused on the reason my engine just apparently *went*

The context he put out for me prob made it abit worse. But thats prob better then sugarcoating then finding out it is worse.

As a conclusion, like Andrew said, he is good, reliable. But go in and expect a price tag attached. Maybe in the end it wont be too much, but know that he does good work for his price.

In my limited dealings with Simon I have found him to be knowledeable and honest. He may be expensive, but he is still cheaper than a dealer, and he will offer better service and will more often than not do a better job. He has a strong track record with rotaries, not just RX8s.

I did hear some horror stories about him, years ago, but that was from a rival rotary builder/workshop/drag racer who has since left his own reputation in tatters and my own personal experience with Simon/Promaz suggests that those stories were bullshit.

So what you're saying is that Mexican wives/GFs will be kissing northern men?

Yeah, I can see that...
