... so a dealer has held this car for nearly 12 months

If your friend's S3 is nice, clean and stock, I could be interested. Where is he now?

I suspect the car has had a respray and may have been in a bingle , hence the time lapse between manufacture date and actual registered date , i am tryng to locate the original owner and speak to them .

The dealer is a nice guy but i know for a fact he loves to make a huge profit on resales he probably picked the car up for $ 37,000.

My friend lives in Melbourne but hes coming up to retire here on the Goldcoast around April , the car is original /stock and not used much as he has 5 other toys including WRX STI .

cheers

Michael, check the service books, it'll tell you everything you need to know.

Better yet, use the service book to find out where it was serviced and call them. Not only will they be able to give you more detail on what's gone wrong, they should remember the car itself. When you service 323's all day, rx-7's tend to be memorable

Yes... very tasty ... but can it be registered in Australia?

I think not, unless it is a personal import. Even though you might get import permission (as Mazda did not import them here themselves) you'd have to get the car fully engineered for ADR compliance ... and it won't comply without quite a few (expensive) mods, I'd guess.

I'm also guessing that's the source of Ezzy's bastard child drag car :D :D , as you can only import and use them for racing/rallying

VERY tasty... but that's the thing, you'd have to bring its NZ owner (who has owned it for the last 12 mths) over with it... and God knows, we've got enough here already! [j/k]

...of course, they wouldn't have to stay too long..... I think...??

its an import/for parts only, so cant be registered , the 13BTT and its drivetrain came out & into an aust spec S2. the one we got still have pretty straight body/shell & full leather interior. picking up the 308/gearbox this weekend, looking at the blower setup atm, as soon as its done, it will have a new paint job

I am tempted to add it to my stable if i can get it at the right price , why would a car built in 1997 be only registered in 1999 ? i was told only 200 were made available to Australia .

The RX7 seems original throught but the asking price of $49,000 is over the top .

The other alternative would be to get a 2001 or 2002 Black market japanese IMPORTED RX7 .

I still intend on keeping the RX8 and turbo/supercharge it , but the RX7 was dammed nice .

cheers

Check the VIN.

Should be JM0FD1034-10000076 or similar

This would make it an Aussie delevered Series-VII. The fact that it was first registered in 99 is testament to Mazda Australia's ripp-off-the-rotary-customer policy as it sat around for a couple of years before the RX-7 was announced as "discontinued" in late 98 causing that minor? rush when they where doing them at $79K. ($10k off regular)

Here are the official Series-7 sales from Mazda Australia. When the same car was under $50K in Japan, you can understand why they hardly sold here ($89K)

1996 = 37
1997 = 54
1998 = 21

Much better "value for money" is a Jap spec "series-8". Contact me personally if you are serious about saving cash on one.

Now, if you think 294NM of 13B-REW torque is cool. Try 402NM from a 20B-REW Cosmo.

No wonder I love those cars.......................

Dude you could own this beast for that.

Its a series 8 280ps with the highest Pwr to weight of all the RX-7's

Also the Factory seats are worth a cool $9000 from Mazda

Oh and its the only one outside of Japan to the best of my knowledge.

The only s8 you're going to find at that price is either:
* unregisterable
* auto RB model
* comes with free telegraph pole in the passenger seat
* all of the above

There's a mob in WA that bring in absolutely flogged s8's could have something to do with them.
