Is there another RX-8 in your street?

When I moved to my current address eight years back, I was chuffed to see that the guy five doors up drove a brand new GT. As a V8 Falcon fan, I thought I had made the right decision to buy here, and that we would obviously enjoy a few beers over the barbie talking the torque. Turned out he was a big suit from the factory and came home with a different car each month.

Now I'm a rotorhead and there aint another RX-8 within cooee of me. I swear I have found myself living in a Rotary Free zone. The guy across the road has an old clunker 928 Porsche (that hasn't moved in six months) and an R32 Skyline. The semi-retired rich guy in number 31 has TWO new Maserati's. Apart from this pair, I live in a street devoid of automotive character......and seriously lacking in rotors. I reckon I have the only RX-8 in my suburb, in fact.

How's the rotor situation where you live? Been woken in the early hours by an 8000rpm wail....? :p :p

Epitrochoidially Yours,

Gomez...

I know the feeling GO
Ive seen a sunlight silver on a few occasions 3 blocks from my house....but never when Im driving the 8 but when Im driving the SUV.....I want to meet this individual in hopes to do the ole "8" chit chat cuz 8s are few and far between where I live.....in the long run tho I think its a good thing....thats one of the reasons I bought the 8....not a lot of em on the road makes them extra special...especially when we can get together for a meet...keep your chin up....

There are plenty of 8s parked in the commercial areas near me, but none seem to live in the neighbourhood - there's a Jeep next to me... Ltd will remember how well (not) the Jeeps performed on the Murcotts day.. Don't know the Jeep owner's name - he keeps running away when I say hello.. Might be one of those people that the commercial channel Current Affair shows are looking for???? We think that he escaped from Sydney somewhere... Very strange bod..

Actually, upon reflection, I think I live in a bit of a "down" area.. SCO lives about 10 minutes away - Hymee and skc are about 25mins away, and 18Jambo74 is a little bit further..

Sigh -

It seems The Gap (Brisbane) is RX-8 heaven. There are at least two or three other red ones (beside ours) around, and I have seen a silver and a black one too. We're frequently around Paddington and Rosalie too, and it's a rare day when we don't spot a couple. Similarly, I drive to work in the northern suburbs, and I usually manage to spot two or three. So there you go, it proves that us Brissie people are folk of inordinate good taste and sophistication.

BTW, a small amount of thread hijack: it rained here for the first time in aeons, and there was a goodly amount of water on the road to test my newish Fulda Exeleros. It felt like I was driving in the dry at all times. Great grip.

I live down the road from another RX8 owner of a blue one. I think we got it at the same time. I got to know him off this site, and even attended a track day with him! Awesome stuff. I also met ESCAPE on Saturday! His ride is BLING! :D

Also to be found on my road are a 996 GT2 worked to the shithouse with 2 sons who are hoons, one with a DC2(clear tail lights LOL) and a WRX. These ones find it ideal to soak off the water by doing a donut in front of my house, which is a T-intersection. And down the road is Fowler Homes owner, who must be owning a car rentals place cause I've just lost track of the no. cars that come out of there.

SUmmary of my neighbourhood!

I live in Ashgrove and have 2 Silvers each about 2 blocks away from me.

At my kids' school (Ithaca Creek SS) we have two regular '8's - 1 Red, 1 Blue (mine) plus 1 occasional Silver. There is also a new M3 (upgraded from Monaro GTO), and a new Porsche. Of course compared to somewhere like the Grammar car park this is nothing but it's not bad for a small inner city public school. There's also a Silver RX-8 at my son's kindy but despite a number of attempts the owners don't even acknowledge me let alone talk about the car.

labrat, you're very brave taking your '8 to Paddington and Rosalie as parking around there is shocking. I've had 2 door dings, and an almost had a 4WD (what else!?) reverse into my nose (averted by my hitting the horn and reverse simultaneously) in those suburbs. We take the Premacy now when dining at Fish Lovers or Tomato Brothers.

I have to say that the number of waves and acknowledgements seems to be declining...could be me of course! On the other hand I still get lots of looks from other cars ... had a s2/3 RX-7 almost hit a parked car he was so busy eyeballing me.

I will maybe see 1 or 2 on my way too and from work each day, and I have been looking out for them since I became interested in the 8. Was another reason I placed my order for my first 8 yesterday instead of something more common like an Audi TT or Mini Cooper S (common as muck on the streets of the UK)

Also why I found this forum as there is no-one I know who has one that I can talk too.

We very rarely park in the Fish Lover's car park or in front of Freestyle - much too risky! Actually, we probably won't be doing too much parking around there any more since we're moving into a town house about 5 minutes walk away in a couple of weeks. You have reminded me, we haven't been to Tomato Bros for a while (shouldn't they call it Fratelli Pomodoro?) since they stopped doing weekend lunches. I reckon they're the best pizza in town. And Fish Lovers is the best F&C shop in town too, especially when you can wash your lunch down with a crisp BYO white (as we did yesterday).

There's another VR one in my suburb -- sometimes see it at the local shops, but is non-one here (AFAIK). And a Nordic Green often drives down my street, which can be a bit of a through road

There used to be another RX-8 out my way, used to see it quite a bit driving to and from, but haven't seen one in a long while. I do see a lot in the CBD where I work.

Ours is the only one in the Shire, in fact I believe in the whole of the New England/Northern Tablelands of NSW.
Over 2 days in Brisbane, Kangaroo Pt Fortitude Valley Paddington areas I saw more 8's (including one with a massive twin screw in its snout!) than I would see in 6 or so week-ends in Sydney.
Hope to see nine lined up in my town Thursday!

As verified by DAZ-13B.

Titanium RX-8 in side street parallel to mine. Blue RX-8 in cross street going though mine. Yellow RX-8 at the end of that same cross street.

Thats 3x RX-8s in a 1km area in Sydney suburb of Blacktown. Obviously more around my suburb, but these are the ones I notice everyday near my house.....

Gomez, I'm kind of feeling your pain on this one.

Despite living in Southern California there are no RX-8's anywhere near my house.

I ocassionally see them driving around (not very often though) but it's kind of sad that I'm never able to get one to acknowledge me back.

I see another Ti grey one all the time - it's owned by a female real estate agent! :D

Otherwise I don't see many in my neighbourhood. I don't mind that really. Nice to have something a little unusual.

As for other cars, I live near the top of a relatively twisty hillclimb so it is not uncommon to see (and hear) a variety of cars and bikes having a thrash. Ain't no one got it wired like me though. My wife can hear me coming from about 1km away when I've got a clear run at it.

I always wave at other 8 owners when I see them out driving but the response is patchy to say the least. A lot of older blokes ignore me but the girls and the younger blokes usually give a wave back.

There is one who vists the park across the road from me. He brings his kids there to kick a ball and play on the swings. I swear the first time he saw/heard me come around the corner he almost dropped his little girl :D Other than that nothing in my estate!

Pure and simple they feed off the success of others by doing a job that really isn't that hard. Imagine how much less they would make if you paid them by the hour instead of as a percentage of the sale price. Were it not for the convenience factor you could do most of what they do yourself.

Besides, us bottom feeders have to fight amongst ourselves. Nobody else lowers themselves to our level. :p :D
