thermal reflash opinions
Had latest"H" flash prior to this reflash. That "H" flash provided car with much improved torque in lower /midrange relative to "G" flash. Car felt quite muscular in its power delivery from 2500 through to redline.I was really enjoying the power characteristics of the car.Wheel spin was quite easy to induce from stop without trying.
Then I got the thermal reflash done today and performance seems weaker.Torque in low /mid range seems weaker . The previous throaty engine note now is much more subdued .
Did the brake tap reset and drove the car hard for 30 minutes to relearn my driving style but still disappointed with performance.
Interesting to see if anyone else has similar experience.?
Regards
Rexi

Rexi, my experience is identical to yours. Feels like the car has been neutered somehow. She doesn't seem to have the same 'punch' after crossing the 5K on the tach. I complained to my servive department, but to no avail. I'm hoping that if enough people complain Mazda will listen up and do something about it.
Hey Mazda! Can you hear me now?

Mazda appeared to be progressively providing us with better developed and more powerful flashes , and progressively increasing hp towards quoted figures BUT my guess is that they have panicked as a result of rare cases of thermal damage with potential for fuel tank damage and possible fire/explosion and have resorted back to safe /conservative fuel/ timing maps so that the exhaust does not get as hot .
Would love for hymee etc who has a scanalyser to analyse this new flash for timing and fuel changes relative to "H" flash.
Honestly I am getting tired of all this S### , thinking of going down microtech route with promaz.Does anyone know what this option costs?

If you read those two carefully, you'll see there is nothing in the change to PCM programming that will affect day-to-day operation. Nothing that will affect the butt dyno.

Gomez, thanks for those printouts.Im sure that maps for a/f and timing have also been modified.Engine feels lethargic and engine note is noticably subdued.
As Ive said ,would love someone to analyse with scanalyser and comment.

Hey rexi. I'm not sure, i think I got the H flash at the service last week. He told me that there was one done.
However, I've been able to chirp 2nds quite easily, everytime. Whereas before the flash,
it was quite a challenge.:D I also had new tyres put in and they sure do sound good!
IMO it does feel slightly more powerful.
Cheers.

I mentioned at todays meet that I have had a noticable increase in the amount of poping from my Exhaust since the recall.
Gomes, being in software development I can guarantee you that this change was not the only one that was made since the "H" flash.

Top end power seems OK. Not my concern .Full on red lining through 1st and 2nd is fine , masking low end loss.
A test that tells me whether low end power is better or worse after a flash is to drive along in 2nd gear at 2000 rpm and them bury the throttle and see how well car pulls through to about 6000rpm.
The flash prior to this recall flash would give me strong elastic torquey response immediately from these low revs all the way through.
Whereas this recall flash when I apply the same test feels weak from 2000rpm and progressively feels stronger as i approach 5000rpm and above.Ie you have to work and rev car harder and longer to get into power band.
Only speculation but it feels like to me that timing in these lower revs has been retarded with this recall flash .I would speculate that fueling has been leaned out a bit in the low to mid range to improve economy but that as a precautionary measure Mazda has backed off timing to a greater extent to prevent possible pinging/detonation issues.
End result........weaker low end.
Would love to get my former flash back.Does anyone know if it would still be available on wds at dealer for retroflashing?
regards

Yep, me also, previous flash would "pop" regularly when taken out to 5Krpm then change up - now nothing. Also less "noise" on hard acceleration, and this is all with the Hymee exhaust - still sounds great but the previous flash sounded better!
And yes it is also a little more subdued (smoother) low down under hard acceleration. So I think that the timing and/or mix have been reprogrammed for this flash.
I don't have a ScanAlyser yet (no PPC version released) so I can't ID my flash version.
Cheers,
Tonym.

Agree with the low end "loss." My 2005 is very subdued now..takes forever to reach 4000 RPM!!! Had mine done last week...
Another note, anyone know what flash I'm suppose to be on? I've been told E...want to confirm so I can ask the tech to verify that it is the flash. Also, any way for me to verify that they did their job on the recall? I'm concerned after reading many threads that they will do a half-*** job on it....
