Exclamation Third air bag replacement!!!

Hi Guys,

I had another air bag warning light come on recently. Went to the dealer and they have ordered another airbag. The lady at the counter could not tell which one was faulty this time. This is getting beyond a joke now.

The first was the drivers (side) air bag then the passangers (side) and now???

Now, 50% of my airbags have failed. I am worried that this proplem may continue past the prescribed warranty period....then we are talking big $$$ to fix this problem.

Has anyone else encountered such a problem.

You would think they would test each one as it left the factory. <duck>

You are aware there is a known problem with the airbag harness? In the US cars, at least. There is a TSB out on it. I posted it up in the Tech area some time back.

I doubt very much if the problem that is affecting North American cars is confined to them. I'll chase up the link.....

Way to Go, Mez.

You would think that was it. Interesting to see what the dealer has to say of they chase it up with Mazda.

Is it true the calibration differs for the US spec cars? (i.e. the trigger threshold is different/lower).

Cheers,
Hymee.

a few months ago the car was in for a week getting the whole system replaced, then 2 days after i got the car back the light went on again. i just didn't bother again. i was going to wait until the next service to get it looked at again, but recently the light's decided to turn itself off.. soo.. yeh

Hi Guys

Thanks for the feedback. Gomez, that TSB is interesting...it seems they have to pull the whole interior. I am not too keen on that. According to his last post the new harness not work anyway.

So, may be the best solution is to follow Takas advice and get an extended warranty and let the dealer deal with the problem as it arises.

Ezzy, unfortunately apart from the dealer telling me that they tested the harness and installed a new airbag, I have no further information. However, when I go for the next install I will be finding out more .

I think we have lemon laws here. However, It may apply to major failures. I may need to look into this.

There's certainly precedent in this forum that Mazda will respond positively to a persistent problem, so it'd be worth raising with your dealer and getting them to escalate the problem with Mazda

Airbag Failure = major failure or minor failure?

I guess the first time it fails to deploy it becomes major. But then your not around to sue anyone.

Cheers,
Hymee.

1. car in accident,
2. air bag doesnt work,
3. person(s) injured as a direct result = MAJOR issue.

My 2 cents worth.
