Tiguan or RX8?
I'm at the crossroads and I didn't think it would happen at this point of time. We have been discussing the prospect of changing to a more practical vehicle, and the VW Tiguan looks like it has got it all. I have taken one for a test drive and i'm impressed with the turbo - albeit a diesel. I have put a holding deposit on one which is coming into the country in 2 months, (theres normally an 8 month wait) and the reviews are good...very good.
Tiguan 103TDI
• Engine type 2.0 litre common rail turbo diesel with diesel particulate filter
• Power 103kW
• Torque 320Nm
• Acceleration, 0-100km/h 10.5 seconds
• Fuel consumption 7.9 L/100km (saving approx $4 per 100 km)
• 6 speed automatic with Tiptronic
• All wheel drive
• Price (fully optioned) $54,500 drive way.
Can anyone talk me out of this...!

Lot of money for a jacked up Golf...and I'd wait for the 125Kw TDI, if it's coming, same as in my wife's Golf GT TDI.
If you are hooked on diesel (not that there's anything wrong with that ), check out the Skoda Octavia RS TDI, and save a good $10k. It's basically the same running gear.

Have you calculated the higher cost of diesel in that figure?
Acceleration, 0-100km/h 10.5 seconds
Can you live with going that slow?
Anytime I want to get reminded why I like my 8 so much I get in and drive the Kluger or my wife's Prius.
Then I get back in the 8 and know I am at home with a car that connects me to the road.
Good luck with it.

Cost of diesel and the up keep and servicing cost of a diesel , let alone the resale value of diesel cars .
Loosing 4000 rpm would make one cry .
If you must get one go for the 2 liter TFSI 147 kw and very easily upgraded to over 190kw for $2500.00
Moonlight or transfer to the Goldcoast for the fringe benefits and get a Aston Martin
Cheers

Still, it depends on what you want in a car. If the Tiguan ticks more boxes for you than the RX-8, then go for it. However, there are so many good cars out there (and more coming every day) the choice isn't getting easier. I don't have any prejudices for or against vW, but there have been stories around that build quality and reliability have been issues in recent years. VW management have admitted this, saying an overly complicated design has contributed to this. There might also be merit in checking whether the car has been made in South Africa, where it has been reported that build quality isn't as good as in Europe. In this context, I understand that the Czech-built Skoda has been getting good marks for build quality.
Speaking only for myself, after 5 years of driving my RX-8, I could never own any car which does not engage me to the same level. I guess I'm just a sports car tragic.

that is why i thort kluger is good for you since i comes with 201kw 3.5 L V6
very powerfull but fuel consumption is not good as the tiguan but still around 11L/100kw depends on how you drive

There you go, good plan, and I just happen to real nice Kluger with only 50K on the clock at a bargain price.
You could buy it and keep the 8 also.
Have a 7 seat SUV for family and the 8 for you.
PLUS that Tiguan is going to be boring as hell going around Lakeside for the nats

I cannot believe this debate is even occurring!
It's called a 'Tiguan'.
Do you seriously need to know anything else about it?
If you must trade the RX8 in on something more practical, I agree with Timbo - the Skoda Octavia is a good buy. Will have **** resale though.

I've got the message... For a fleeting moment I thought the 27K for my '04 with 52K was a good trade offer.
On top of the issues you've raised paying full retail also means I'd still be getting screwed over, so I'm backing out for now.
