Tire Sealant

Guys yesterday i busted my tire with a 4 inch gash (don't ask me what did it) anywayz i didnt realise how big the hole was until i used all the tire sealant and it poured out and leaked on the driveway. So i had no choice but to put that dummy little spare (push bike tire) on my car until monday when i can replace the thing.

Just wondering where i can get more of the tire sealant from? will the dealership have any in stock?

thanks

Personally, I would pay the jacked-up dealership price for an OEM refill. Yes fix-a-flat can be had for a dollar or two at many places, but its worth 6-8$ extra to maintain the warrenty IMHO. Plus it might be state of the art, the rest of the 8 is.

I can't see how using an OEM sealent will maintain the warranty, but I'm with you I wouldn't buy a $2.00 cheappy. I think good sealants are abou 10-15 dollars (not includng mazda label mark ups)

Also, selants are only good for punctures, not for gash's

I thought it was a bad idea using the sealant? Why not get it patched internally?

On a tyre that has a 4" gash!? It is now junk.

IMHO, for a high performance vehicle, you would want to take expert advice before getting a punctured tyre patched and refitted. Or to continue to use with the sealant in it. When it comes down to it, those four pads on the road are all your car is about. Not worth taking risks.

However, how many times is a high performance car used in a high performance environment ?

A ferrari will work well on $120 tyres in everday driving situations

Fair comment, but just once (and the tyre failing) is more than enough, IMHO!

It's all about acceptable risk, and I've had enough tyre experiences for me to say 'no way!'

why did you even use the sealant when you have the spare? Even if you could have sealed the tires the fix a flat goop will most likely ruin the tire. I think most people don't think they will get a flat and only when they do get one realize what a poor substitute for a real tire the seal goop is.

Too dangerous to patch I presume... I rather have a new tyre

gomez you know me too well :p :p

Well guys i hear the potenza's are expensive (bridgestone of course) so im looking at getting 2 Micehlin tyres for about $200 (wholesale) and keep the other front tyre as a spare.

I should of just placed the dummy spare but i wanted to experience using the goop (as i have never used any before) that way if i do get a puncture out far i know what to expect.

its all about learning

Michellin what though?

Potenza are the cheapest among the decent performance tyre categories.

Of course I am looking at Potenza S3, Michellin Pilot Sport and the Pirelli PZeros
