Took a spin in a Turbo RX-8 on Saturday
What can I say, this car was a beast. For me it was everything I wanted from the 8 in performance. It showed a 55% increase in power and torque arcoss the entire low and mid range with approximately a 40% increase at peak.
It was a screaming ball tearer, and I am now booked to get one.
The developer (whom at this stage will remain anonomous, until I get mine fitted in January) has done almost 20,000 hard kms testing without a glitch.
The turbo kicks in at 2500 and hence basically elimiates lag and you can accelerate in any gear from that 2500 revs. Try that in you car at the moment.
When you pop the bonnet you can not even tell it has a turbo, it looks stock as a rock, take off the engine cover and only a small section of stainless pipe gives a hint of something else.
From the exterior you can not even tell. Just what I wanted a "sleeper".
Anyway, just thought I would pass that on, because I hoped you would appreciate it.
So there we go, FI is officially here in Aust, and it is impressive and it works.
Who's up for a cuise end of January after it's installed. :D

It is not Ric, it is someone else...... but they are using my existing piggy back ECU.
The system runs 6psi boost so the stress in minimal.....
The cost is about $8,000.00 and takes 5 days to install.
Edit: That $8,000 includes ECU, I get it cheaper because I already have the ECU.

Great News Gibbo, :D
Now we can blast those Skylines on the Mountain......I was invited to a Skyline cruise to Mount Panorama yesterday, absolutely awsome day out, I think the little RX8 stole the show through the dipper.......
Gibbo great Xmas pressy your treating yourself to mate, now I can see those massvie Turbo flames shooting out the back of your devil yellow beast.
I'll be expecting that post from you regarding an RX8 assault on the Mountain early in the New Year.
Allan Horsley look out, here comes the GIBBO TURBO SPECIAL RX8!

All looks very ... Rotormaster... to me Especially pricing, use of piggy-back ecu, stages and so-on. But I thought there'd been quite a bit of debate regarding the reality of the claimed output.
Don't get me wrong -- I am all for these developments but am keen to identify who the players are.
As I see there's no longer any mention of an RX-8 development on the rotomaster site, I'm tempted to suggest he is out of this, and has licensed someone else??

Are they going to get to the stage 2 before releasing it?
OR
Have they sorted out the "not over 7500 pls comment"?

Thanks for doing the testing for us Gibbo...
Will they accept MoTec for tuning... you reckon? You don't have to answer me now. I probably will consider it when I have sorted out the insurance and the other cooling parts, and you have a few months of it.
I am coming up for a conferance in March. Wish to test drive if I may

So uhmm how come the company doesn't want to identify itself for making such a good turbo kit. Such a **** tease (imo), and I will probally forget about this thread instead of thinking of a name when it comes time to a buy a turbo for my rx-8.
Those are some impressive numbers from 6psi of boost. What else did they modify besides slapping on a turbo and using the ECu?

It is not the company who does not want to identify itself, I don't want to identify it just yet, not until mine is installed and tested.
When it comes to a turbo for your car I don't think you will get an Aussie product as the Aust to USA tunes on the cars are totally different.
Anyway the only mods on the syetem is an exhaust and the turbo with slight alteration to the air intake. Nothing else.

timbo, the info is all still there on the Rotormaster site, just click Services, then Specialist Turbocharging. However you are right in your "looks like Rotormaster comment", Gibbo's dyno graph is lifted off the Rotormaster site. It's also printed in the July copy of Motor magazine. So, I think we can safely assume Gibbo is the first forum member to stump up for a Rotormaster turbo. The $8000 cost ties with that of a Rotormaster RM8 Stage One. Coincidentally, the Ric Shaw piggyback he has fitted is a rebadged TSI unit ...the same one that is used in the Joe Signorelli Rotormaster kit.
If it is a Rotormaster, Gibbo has the figures wrong. Rotormaster claim a 11% improvement in power (to 141kw @ the wheels) and a 55% improvement in torque (at 5500rpm) for the Stage One kit.
Righto Gibbo, time to fess up, you shouldn't have published the dyno graph if you wanted the supplier kept secret :p . Now tell us more about the drive you had, a 55% improvement in torque does sound appealing....
