No one is as talented as Clarkson. He is just so funny and make some simple obserations show vivid and to the point.
"How hard can it be?"
It is harder than their recent challenge of driving old 2nd hand front wheel drive car across the spine of Africa.
It seems to be easier to be a Tsuchiya in Best Motoring video, since he just states the fact and makes some dirty joke here and there. I can have a go at that.
Also since I have just acquired my adopted Japanese name haha.
Cheers

I saw that while watching last Tuesdays Top Gear. I agree with the review. I am a bit Meh about it. The trio of Clarkson, Hammond and May are what makes that show. I doubt it could be repeated.

I believe they would be better off flying the boys out here to test some of our homegrown performance cars, then fly back to continue doing what they do best. An aussie variant of the show cant last that long in my eyes, clarkson and co get the best of cars first anyhow, and they could probably only fill 2 episodes with aussie cars, but hey, what do i know. Id still watch it.

After all the serves Clarkson has given Australia on the show and in his writing, I doubt he's got the ***** to show up here, lol.
Would be funny if they did though...
Otherwise, I agree with Ash. There's not enough local product to make up a season and why watch a pale facsimile of Top Gear when you can watch the real thing?

I think first they should do a "reality" TV show as the interview mechanism of choosing the hosts of TGAUS (Top Gear AUStralia.) That will separate the men from the boys.
As funny as Clarkson is, the whingy whiny UK style of lifestyle shows won't work here. Nothing worse to hear that sort of stuff with an Australian accent...
Cheers and have a fun and safe Xmas everyone,

Pick me, pick me!
I have my doubts about the viability of this. It's OK in the UK where the show clearly has the advertiser pull to enable them to seriously "test" some fairly exotic machinery, but...seriously...will SBS or even one of the major commercial channels really have the budget and the cojones to let a trio do what they do to a FPV, HSV or even TRD car....let alone even some of the tamer BMWs, Audis and Mercs.
If ever we are likely to find ourselves constrained by the fact Australia represents less than 2% of the world mkt, this is it!
I'm such an optimist I even hope my pessimism is ill-founded

Agree with Timbo.
The only way these car/boat/travel 'lifestyle magazine' type shows survive in Australia is through focused advertiser support, which means the presenters fawn over whatever they get given to test and the budget is still limited. Simply, they cannot afford to be objective, much less call a spade a shovel the way Clarkson et al do.
Further, one of the best features of Top Gear IMHO, often overlooked by fans of the presenters' banter, is the outstanding camera work, which takes mucho time and money to produce, especially on the road trips. A local version would struggle to match it, leading to the cheap look that many of these shows suffer from (the Car Show is a prime case in point).
Again, hope I'm wrong and the local version is a winner but I'm not holding my breath...

The same goes for Jamie Oliver...when you compare his shows to Hueys cooking adventures...well...theres simply no comparison...!

Stefano's Gondola on the Murray was one of the all time great food shows.

Precisely, which is why the show would fail. He may have been a great driver and media savvy, etc but his corporate tie-ups and various endorsement deals would have hamstrung him as a presenter. I also found him quite a boring character on the box. Peter Perfect may make a great hero for the masses but it is the flaws of Clarkson, May and Hammond that give them depth as presenters.

What also makes it is its a show thats not advertised to death, it simply goes about its business reviewing cars to the max, with a witty and comical slant.
Who else but Hammo can make a Porsche both amusing and educational? Who else but Clarkos arrogance can make us agree that a Ferrari is less of a car than a Lambo....even though we know he's wrong!!
Conversely they can destroy a vehicle and use others as target practice....in a nutshell Top Gear is proof a car show can be both serious and comical.
You'd have to look long and hard to find people with the same credentials as these three have....
