I got some from Mazda in the mail in a neat little steering wheel shaped plastic case. Otherwise check with your parts dept it should be about $5.

Now for an Australian answer...
You can get touch up paint from Mazda - about $6 or $10 (I can't quite remember) for a little container similar to a nail polish (it's in a little tube with a small brush that is part of the cap). It even includes the little flakes in the red paint.
I've started toucing up a few little nicks in mine using the toothpick approach (do a search in the show and shine forum for more info). The brush that comes with the touch up paint is little too big for most small stone chips.

toothpick sounds good.
Also try some baby cotton buds from Johnson's. They have a funny shape and you will see why I use that.
I pour some from touch up paint on a piece of plastics and use a bud to touch up the stone chips. But I guess streaks better use toothpicks.

Velocity red is a metallic colour - so touch up is a bit tricky to do. Unless you have the same mixture of both silver and red as the base. Touch up too dark may mean you have more red but less silver in the brush - even the bottle has the same paint as your car...
What do you think of my thoery :D?

The metallic effect is mica, not silver. the bottle has the same paint code as my car, and I shake it, and shake it to mix it. Am not too sure what your theory is ![Confused](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/confused.gif)
Ezzy? This is your thing. Please advise when you have time.

I thought mica is base colour + some silvery flakes... may be I am wrong?? ![Confused](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/confused.gif)
I heard some people trying to paint the INGs+1 kit in Velocity Red and had problem and had to go to some Mazda people to double check colours (how and why I have no idea). He told me he add 2 different things into the base red paint to get this colour.
Damn now I think your colour is special. :o

From what the body shop told me when I has my front bumper cover replaced is that the 3 stage paint process is as follows...base red coat(s), gold mica, then clear coats. Whether or not this is an oversimplified explaination of the process D Menac 7 would be a better person to ask. As for the touch up not matching, it is meant more for minor chips and not scratches. The best method I have found was from a tip on here (don't remember who posted it) is to apply small amounts at a time with a paper match that is from a matchbook, and you use the end torn from the matchbook not the end you light. The brush in the bottle is only good for large chips, and the paint only helps blend the area not going to be a perfect match.

So, what you're really saying here, is that it depends how fine the flakes are, and whether they lie more horizonatlly than vertically, and so-on...... so, if I'd have checked the fine print on the touch up bottle, I'd have known all this........:D
Where's labrat? Where's Ezzy?
