hi guys, long time no sees

i need to ask opinions on tyres as I am shopping around now and thought I shoulda just continue on this thread rather than create a new one..

my local tyre store has recommended Michelin Pilot Preceda (PP2) at $435 (sounds rather dear) and was wondering if anybody tried this or can give any recommendation or advice..

http://www.michelin.com.au/tyres/pas...lotPreceda.asp

I am also shopping around for front brake pads and is likely to contact Project Mu guys a call.. I just need one for general street driving so not looking to get top of the range HC+ etc. any recommendation on front brake pads will also be appreciated currently most likely to get Project Mu Type NS Front Pair.

Howdy,

Replaced the RE040 with Falken 452s a few weeks ago - very impressed with the ride, handling, and reduced noise. At $239 each (replaced 4) and free alignment - excellent value.

Cheers,

Pappy

Are the 452's newer than the 512's?

Don't know - the 512s are not listed on Falken's website - http://www.falken.com.au/tyres/passenger-tyres.html

$600 a tyre???Why do you need to spend so much Taka...surely the Falken or Michelin Preceda would do a similar job.....

I'm sure Taka enjoys warming his tyres up so they grip.

What is the best money for value tyre for normal city/country driving?

PP2 is far from the performance of PS2.

Falken is rated very poorly in most tyre tests.

Bang for bucks will be Hankook RS2....

I want to see these tyres here though

Bridgestone RE-01R
Yoko Advan AD07
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

These are all great tyres.

Just rang around a few places .. Bridgestone, Bob Jane, Australias Best, Jax, Beaurepaires, and Mathews. Not all of them could supply the Falken tyres but the cheapest was Mathews (at Campsie) at $239 each. And if you purchase 4 tyres (and happen to mention their Internet offer) you get a free front wheel alignment. Took one day for the tyres to be ordered. Also you get a free tyre service (check and rotation I think) every 3 months for the life of the tyres. Excellent value and great service.

Cheers,

Pappy

Hi Taka,

It's been a while but I checkout the site from time to time. Damn those tyres are expensive!

Mathews Tyre Service - cnr Fifth & Ninth Ave Campsie - 9789-5777. I spoke to Shiraz Ali. The tyres I ordered were Falken 452 225/45ZR18 95Y. Note my previous post regarding the free wheel alignment.

Cheers

No such luck with Sydney's dry spell. I read some concerns during my research regarding wet weather performance. These tended to be quite subjective - but have a look at the April 2007 Wheels tyre test. The Falkens perform either in the middle or towards the top of the pack (tyres tested were Bridgestone RE050A, Hankook Ventus K104, Goodyear Eagle F1, Falken 452, Pirelli P Zero Rosso, and Dunlop SP Sport Maxx).

Wet braking test showed the Dunlop/Bridgestone/Falken to be almost lineball.
Wet cornering test had the Falken second behind the Bridgestone.
Wet lap test had the Falken second behind the Goodyear.

This is how the points went overall..

1. Goodyear 99.24
2. Bridgestone 99.05
3. Dunlop SP 98.36
4. Falken 452 98.33
5. Pirelli 97.81
6. Hankook 95.98

I know there are better tyres out there but I am more than satisfied with the Falken, I believe they represent superb value for money and the Wheels comparison provides a great objective overview.

Cheers,

Pappy

Quiet Performer tyres

I chose the Falken 452 for quietness, performance, value in that order.

In the most geeky of ways, I measured the noise with a sound level meter, rolling at 100kph over the same sections of the freeway with the clutch out as well as in.

I found the new tyres were 1dB quieter that the stock Potenza R040.

At 60kph, I can only hear the engine.

Performance? I'm not sure how to test this out properly and objectively.

Yes, I'm still very happy with my Fulda Exeleros. What pleases me is their quietness, super performance in the wet (when we get rain) and wear qualities. At 30,000km since fitting, they look like they might have at least another 25-30,000km in them. Since they've now worn a bit, turn in is sharper too. They haven't become noisier, unlike the OEM Bridgestones. However, they are 245's, so may not be directly comparable with those on the poll list.

Well, the 2nd set of OEM Bridgestones on my car aren't any noisier, in fact they perform a lot better than the ones that came on the car stock.

Are you comparing your 2nd set to what you remembered last from the 1st set of OEM. You must note that they BECOME noisier, something you'll notice later down the track at 20-30 000km.
