Which tyre size should I get?

I am going to buy some tyres from TireRack in the States. I have FAlken 452s on at the moment 235/40 on original rims. I am interested in getting RE050A Pole Position . They are available in 225/45 or 245/40. I want to try to keep the sharp handling of the car and a good initial turn in on steering wheel movement. How much will I lose if I go to 245/40. Does anyone have experience with tyres in this size on the standard rims? By the way, RE050A PP work out at 350 fitted , RE01R are 368 fitted and there is a special on PS2 in 225/45 which works out at 376 landed and fitted in Australia if anyone wants to know. Much cheaper than buying tyres in Australia.

if you like the way the car handles atm then stay with the 225/45's
i have heard that some people have had problems with 245/40's on stock rims but i have this on the rear and have no problems at all (infact they are better then the 235's i had on there originally)

There is no real problem with 245/40 on the road. I even use 245 slicks (which is wider) on stock rim before.

SymSym make sure if you go for RE01R you must tell your insurance company because it is not listed in stock it may not get the ADR and hence they will not pay in case of accidents.

245 slicks have much tougher sidewalls though right taka?

My principal would be:

8": 225 no wider
8.5": 235 no wider
9": 245 no wider
9.5": 255 no wider

Instead of trying to make it look wider from the rear, perhaps just upgrade the rim. Cause, with stock and wider tyres, all your doing is inducing more understeer, tyresquirm and a fat side wall. IMO anyway.

I agree with Tuan.

I've got 235's on 8.5's and I think they're a perfect fit.

It really depends how fussy you are about turn-in feel but I think it's a waste of time upgrading to firmer suspension if you then induce sidewall flex with a tyre that may fit within recommended size ranges but is nevertheless on the upper end of that range (as the 245 certainly is on 8's).
