Mazda Japan - RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version II

Submitted by Dan Mazzella on Thursday, August 19, 2004 - 7:45pm
Mazda Motor Corporation announces the release of the limited-edition Mazda RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version II and an upgrade to all Mazda RX-8 models. The Mazda RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version II will go on sale at Mazda and Mazda Anfini dealers throughout Japan in early October, while the upgraded Mazda RX-8 will become available on September 1.

Based on the Mazda RX-8 'Type S' model, the RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version II boasts sporty looks and a strong heart, including an exclusively tuned engine, suspension system and aero parts to further enhance the vehicle's sports driving performance. With the effective use of existing Mazdaspeed brand parts, Mazda has built a well-balanced, highly-tuned model. This model succeeds the RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version, which was introduced to the Japanese market with the limited production number of 300 in February 2004. All the former version models have been sold.

The production volume of the RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version II is planned to be 180 units.

New standard equipment on all Mazda RX-8 models includes an anti-theft immobilizer and a stylish retractable-type key. These items help enhance the feel of quality for this brand icon model.

Features of RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version II
1. Tune-up parts exclusive to RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version II
[Engine]

- Powertrain Control Module (PCM): Optimized to this model.
- Fresh air duct: Improves the air-intake efficiency.
- Sports sound muffler w/ catalyst: Creates sporty exhaust sound and decreases unfavorable exhausting pressure.
- Upgraded spark plugs: Helps stabilize internal combustion.
- Re-balancing for the eccentric shaft: Realized sharper engine response.
[Suspension]
- A new, upgraded high-performance suspension kit: Includes height- and damping force-adjustable shock absorbers and sports spring set. It provides sharp and smooth maneuverability.
[Exterior]

- Mazdaspeed ornament: Sticker exclusive to the RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version series.

2. Existing Mazdaspeed tune-up parts
[Engine]

- Oil cooler: Increases cooling ability for stable engine performance.
- Light-weight flywheel: Realizes sharp engine response.
[Brake]

- Brake pad set: Focuses on initial brake performance and overall controllability.
[Body]

- Front/rear strut tower bar and performance bar set: Increases body stability.
- Large front/rear stabilizer: Helps control performance especially while cornering.
[Exterior]

- Unique exterior parts including front nose, rear under skirt, side skirt set and rear wing: Represents 'functionality' for sports driving performance, while maintaining original appearance.

3. Manufacturer's options
[Engine]

- Earthing kit: Stabilizes engine performance.

4. Body color

Strut Blue Mica: Also adopted to the former RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version

Enhancements to all Mazda RX-8 models
[All models]
- Immobilizer: Adopted as standard equipment due to high demands.
- Retractable-type key: Stylish and easy-to-handle key as standard equipment. First adopted among Japanese auto makers.
- Engine: Certified for the 2005 exhaust emission regulations. (No changes to the engine itself.)
[Other]
- Water-repellent glass option: Incorporate all the option packages.
- Wrapping-leather for shift ****: Changed from a four-piece rotor-shaped wrapping leather to a three-piece one to better fit the shift ****.
- Body color: Popular as the color of RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version, 'Strut Blue Mica' has been added.

In my mind most of these upgrades are window dressing and nothing substaintial .

What do you guys think???

cheers
michael

Love the color. I wonder what power increases this version will achieve.

Good question however Mazda did not commit themselves to the power figures on version I so they most likely wont commit to version 11.

The question is: Is it remotely likely to come out of Japan? 300 A Spec, 200 B spec. You cannot easily get one even if you have money in Japan!!
