Is that a typo. Do you actually mean Chandler Hwy instead of Calder.

Looks like I will bring the Airshow forward to Saturday. I want to see the short shifter!

Oh yes Chandler Hwy... you see that is what 1.3 years of country job can do to me... I better get a city job (which hopefully be soon -- finger crossed)

:EDITED:

Yes Gomez I will let you know if you need to bring your tool box. It is all depends on when Hymee send me that RP short shifter

I will be there.

Also, to anyone coming, this is a really BAD place to speed. Firstly there are the push bike, then there are the motor bikes, then there are the Police with cameras trying to film you.

If you are guaranteeing we'll want one after seeing it I'm glad I'm going to be half way to London

Seriously, I wish I could make it, can we try and make a more regular meeting, say once every 2 months, try and increase real world involvement in Melbourne, maybe organise some drives along the Great Ocean Road or Black Spur etc.

Draco is accusing us being lazy...

Well I am sure it is not the first, since there are more products out now... sCANalyser and Richard Paul shifter are good products.

I have sent invites to the Elite team's RX-8s (one Veilside and one RE Amemiya body kit). Hope they are coming

Yeah it will be an exciting day. Too bad Mrs Taka will miss out. I think little Ms Taka might miss out too.

I'm not accusing anyone of laziness (well except me, but that doesn't count). When I get back from overseas I'm hoping I have more time to spend at weekends, because the last 12 months has been hectic. I'm suddenly realising that it's been 10 months since I got my RX-8 and it doesn't feel like anything but a new car, and that's with just over 18,000 Kms. I'd like to see an offline RX-8 club, whether stand-alone or in conjunction with the MX-5 club. I'd like to see an RX-8 club with some kind of CAMS affiliation to make organising track events easier (likely to be with other car clubs). I'd be crazy to demand someone else organise all of that and intend to investigate feasibility and interest when I get back from overseas.

I like the idea of this. I really want to enjoy this car. God knows I worked hard and saved long enough for something like this!

Track day is easily done...

CAMS club will be time consuming, costly, and not insured by most companies.

Have you heard or thought of eventsoneill?

I went to Luke ONeill's track day events last year and they are very very good. I am sure they can do the same for a group of people like us (if we have the number). Or we can track our cars at Sandown.

In fact there is one tomorrow!!!

Call Luke's mobile ... 0418 882 264 to see if there are more vancanies.. there will be since we (a group of 10) are not going.

(p.S. Masarati club cost $180 for a event and Luke Oneill cost 285 for one. Masarati has closed timed format while luke has the open untimed format. - I will do 2x more laps and more relaxing in Luke's then the Masarati, plus Race Driver teaching ~ priceless)

Events ONeil are more expensive than the track days organised by most car clubs. Whether that is based on numbers / subsidies or discounts because they are car clubs I don't know.

Also, most car clubs organise weekend events which are more accessible than week day events, plus motorkhana's, sprints and most of these events require some form of CAMS license depending on the level of the event.

The most basic CAMS license requires membership of a car club. I'd rather spend time creating an RX-8 Car Club than join some of the other car clubs such as the Maserati club that allow any car owner to join because personally I'd feel no real "membership" as the club's identity isn't with the car I drive. I would however join the MX-5 club if they allowed non-MX-5 owners in, which they don't (at least in VIC).

Well as I edited Events ONeils has open sessions, lunch, race driver teaching and special rides. Yes it is $285 and on the weekdays but....

Masarati club say you are going twice a year (that is half of their events).

Club fee $88, each time $120 ($240 for twice), lunch $25 ($50 for twice). Plus you have to buy fire extinguisher, tie down and tape your front light and fog.

It is already $400 plus dollars for 2 track days and about how many laps you are doing in there --- plus no one teaching you how to drive.

My advice: Like me - take a sickie on the event oneill track days Just kidding. I like to go to both.

DracoMJB... ok I am convinced. We can do CAMS RX-8 club...
It will be good to organise something like that. ... I don't mind involve in starting one if someone do it with me and show me the light

So you're basically saying for a one off investment of $88 plus a fire extinguisher then for $290 you get 2 race days. Compared with the $285 of Events O'Neil, that's pretty much 2 for the price of one.

I agree that you probably won't get the instructors available, but in a club environment you would hopefully have different experience levels to assist the less experienced.

But anyway, expect some postings from me late April early May regarding setting up a Victorian RX-8 Club.

Oh thanks. Good luck with the trip and speak to you when you get back. If you need any help I will be available. Actually I WANT to be involved if I can.

Yes club track day is half the price (well sort of) but they will only have 3 runs of 7-8 (max 10 laps) because they have 60 cars sharing the track (hence the cheaper price). In events ONeill, there are only 20-30 cars. I do 60 QUALITY (with at least 15 of them with an instructor) laps. I use up 1.5 tank of fuel, 1 L of engine oil and go for 300km+ on the track.

Say hiring Sandown for a day is $5000 (at least what I think it will cost ). We can have 10 people and have absolute fun but will cost $500 each. There is no cheap track day out there. PERIOD

Someone I hate being sitting around and wait for my turn. At least at Event ONeill I can do whenever I like (at least so far it is ). I think RX-8 club should have open session, since our car are roughly similar... or we can have Hymee enhanced grade and non-Hymee enhanced grade .

Will talk more on the meeting, shall we? It is getting to be a very nice idea. I will do some self research on the CAMS club in-and-outs myself.

Wow, from Taka's b'day meet up to a CAMS affiliated car club. All sounds good, I'll try and make it down to have a look at the scanalyser and shifter.

Taka, are you going to Sandown tomorrow?
