I am out of warranty now so, fingers crossed that no further problems arise.

Warranty work done to date:
heat shield recall
new brake pads ( prevoius pads used to squeal)
starter motor
battery
plugs
replaced both front headlamps (oily residue in original)
3 new airbags (warning light)
new wiring harness
new seals for both tail lights (on order to be fixed out of warranty)

Only disappointment is that I complained about the vibration at idle and they could not identify or appreciate the problem. They inspected the mount but reported back saying that it was OK. So, unfortunately no new engine mount. However now that the complaint is lodged I am hopeing that they will acknowledge the problem if it arises in the future. Maybe I need to sit ina new car and compare the differance.

Sorry if i'm mistaken but i didn't know brake pads were replaced under warranty?
My pads are squeaking again and the dealer (AMR off Parramatta Rd) told me that the brake pads needed replacing and told me it would cost about $300. I told him not know and left.

I have done about 30 000km on my 8. Is it time for new pads?

Had my car for 2 and half years. once i was driving and the car shut down itself while waitting for green light. try to start up again and didn't work.

Push and try to start didn't work, took me half hour to jump start, try 3 times and finally works. after 2 to 3 weeks car shut itself more offten, once a day or twice. went to PROMAZ and told me that the engine is F++KED so he told me to go back to mazda, they replace new engine for me. because they think that one of the rotar is dead.

New engine fitted monday finish today. car at home already, friend picked it up for me, new engine pay nothing, now thinking about PROMAZ Turbo Kit.

1. Recalls
2. Engine ECU
3. Engine mounts
4. Sliding compartment cover
5. Gearshift ( fake chrome wore off leaving lovely plastic underneath)
6. Brake pads
7. Drivers seat repadded due to protruding bar in backrest ( from new)

Hardly perfect, but not bad either. And service/ support from dealer Eurocars generally excellent.

I joined the engine mount club today.

It was a gradual deterioration for my RX-8. Wasn't sure what the sound was only that there was a slow build in vibration at idle. Vibration increased dramatically in recent weeks so in she went.

Only one mount was found to be faulty and replaced.

Other than that I've had a couple of squeaks and rattles and a windscreen spray nozzle realigned under warranty.

In regards to squeeky brakes... Mine are squeeking a little to. I think they just need to be replaced. I just got my RX8. Here is some info and if anyone has some words of wisdom and things to check first off I am all ears. Any words from the wise is greatly appreciated.

2005 Metallic Gray
25000 mi
Mazdaspeed carbon fiber hood
Mazdaspeed carbon fiber wing

I bought it used from a guy who seemed to take great care of it. He told me how often he put oil in it, he fouled the plugs once etc.. The tail lights have condensation built up I am contacting my nearest dealer to use warranty and get them replaced. It idles a little rough sometimes but quites down after driving for a while. Drivers seat has a smal popping noise when taking curvies going aroung 60 mph. I am a huge(former) Nissan fan. I owned only Nissan and was about to buy a 350z. After hours of research and compare I went with an RX8. I love it!!!

Again, any wise words would be great! This club is great and I could use the support system!

Warranty work done:
1. Std recalls (Heat shields done, ball joints not requied)
2. Engine mounts.
3. Starter motor.
4. Battery.
5. Plugs.
6. Replacement Console lid
7. Radiator fluid sensor (logged pre warranty expiration - waiting on part to arrive)

Tyres and break pads replaced through normal wear and tear
Driver side panels replaced thanks to mindless truckie.

Otherwise it's all good

Cheers.... Otto

Now you all have me worried.

I finally took an RX8 for a test drive 2 weeks ago and swallowed the hook.
Mine is due to arrive Monday and I find all these potential problems.

I guess it is better to know what might go wrong.

I am selling a WH Caprice that had absolutely nothing go wrong for the first 150000 km then started to cost me money.

The big family car is not so necessary anymore so I checked out the RX8 the 350Z and the Audi TT.

As willing as the Audi's turbocharged engine is it felt like driving a cross between a coffin and a battle tank. Horrible ambience and no way to get a good driving position.A car should be at its best from the inside not the outside.

The Nissan could have been a contender in coupe form but the convertible made me feel like Noddy.

The Mazda said welcome home.

Northern NSW. About half way between Byron Bay and the Gold Coast.

Surrounded by fantastic driving country.

I am not really that worried.

I am looking forward to next week though.

Welcome, thisllub.

You're in one of my fave parts of the country! I'm sure you'll have heaps of fun in the 8 and any problems - the solutions are here to be found...

Enjoy, and share your experiences with us

PS I followed a new Audi TT down the road the other day and it would have to be better from the inside (and your comments don't encourage that!), because it's sure got some weird curves on the outside... not an improvement on the first one, I have to say.

The worst thing about the Audi was the cramped driving position. The centre console intrudes into your legroom so that you have to drive with your legs together. Old Volvos used to have narrow legroom too.

It is still a surprisingly fun drive. The turbo is a real rush.

I like the new TT. I reckon they're a vast improvement over the old, thank god they've pissed off the old design and made it look like a baby bugatti veyron ... but the 1.8T wouldn't cut the mustard for me I'm afraid.

Missyk. I just read earlier in the forum that someone said they had squeeky brakes and a reply told them to sell their 8. Just was curious about that. Would getting brake pads replaced anywhere be ok or should I take it to the Mazda dealership and have them replace em?

Replacing the brake pads isn't difficult. Any competent mechanic can do it for you. There's also a range of aftermarket pads to choose from, some of which help to eliminate squeal (and dust).

Your question is a little vague. This forum is packed with info. Just requires a bit of effort to search and read through it. Start with the sticky threads in the section you're interested in and use that search function.

After three years of ownership, the only pitfall that I can think of is the increased risk of funding the policeman's ball. It takes great discipline to stay within the law once you sit behind the wheel.

All the other stuff you read about, just accept that its part of the cost of ownership and don't lose sleep over it. Then you'll be able to just slide in and enjoy the ride.

Cheers..... Otto
