I doubt even the new car that has undergone the "treatment" prior to delivery will have the best shine after a year.
My thinking is there are too much road dirt, tar and debris on the paint after a while and they need to be cleaned up and repolished.
I am no expert on paint.... I guess EZZY is the best person in OZ forum for this question.

it can be waxed at any stage.
maybe use some sort of paint cleaner first to remove any build ups before waxing.
im no detailing expert, best to send me mate greg an email or a call @ http://www.eclipsedetailing.com.au/
