What's your opinions on the 07 Golf R32
Here at work our shipping/logistics manager has recently ordered a new Golf R32 with DSG transmission as a company car. He has just notified the company directors that he is moving back to Germany due to family drama's leaving them with a car due to be delivered soon and no employee to give it to!
My Boss has just asked if I would like it in the form of like a pay rise and thank you for my years of effort. If I am willing to sacrifice $250 a month from my pay he will make up the rest for the car. He will cover any taxes involved!
So what is everyones thought's on the R32?
Sounds good to me, 184kw 3.2l V6, all wheel drive, huge brakes (346mm front rotors, 310 rear), 0-100 in 6.2 seconds. I am told they handle very well but as I do not know anyone with one that's all heresay. Might have to go and book a test drive soon as I can!

r36 is a Passat!
The 4WD is very good on the current Golf R32. I will say get it. On the street, I think Tsuchiya saying that it does not pick up well out of the corner, under bumps, prob the suspension need a major look at.
It will be fun sorting out the car. But I think most people will say the GTi is a better drive, but R32 is a faster car.

if it works out well. then go for it.

My mail is similar to Taka's.
The R32 is a better track tool but the GTi is better to live with day to day.
Careful about resale though, if that figures in your decision. There's a limited market for a hatch this exxy.
Mind you, we're finding the same thing with the RX8.
Your MX5 will probably retain value better and if you follow through on your planned drivetrain mods you're likely to eat R32's at track days.
The R32 is a better track tool but the GTi is better to live with day to day.

Grab it with both hands.Drove one a while back,good device.DSG works well.Big brakes,good handler.At that price you'd be mad not to.Don't listen to all the experts who haven't even sat in one.
Probably not worth $15000 odd over a GTI,but at $250 a month,who cares?You couldn't even buy a Polo for that!
And to all the others offering their opinion on what they'd buy-go ahead and buy one.
Which part of he's been offered a R32 only didn't you understand?

Stu:
1) This will be the only way you can get faster.
2) You don't have to worry about heel toe anymore.
3) You have a boot again.
Downside are
1) MX-5 is sexier car.
2) More petrol need from B to C (home to work).
$250 for this sort of trouble - why not!

Stu, why do you need to consult on this? I'd grab it in a heartbeat, especially at the cost (ok, subject the fine print )
Just to convince yourself, go to a dealer that has a demo, and have a test drive. You'll be totally convinced. (Just don't let Danielle see the Eos)
It's not a competitor to the MX-5...or the 8, for that matter...and yes, you have to ask yourself if a hatch is your thing. But after that....which part of "YES PLEASE!" is difficult to say

Relax Len. He asked for opinions, so I gave him one.
The GTi was only used for comparison purposes and he's already got the MX5 as you know. I understood Stu had (more) plans for it, that's all.
And I know Stu drives a fair distance to work each day and thought he could use a headsup on whether the R32 might become a pain to live with day to day in peak hour traffic. Mind you, Melbourne's roads are better than Sydney's.

BTW, I've had a quick test drive of both the R32 and the GTi.

You're all discussing my next ride, possibly in a month or so.
I've driven both the gti and the r32, and as has been mentioned above the 32 is a wrx for the mature palate. And far more suited to my rural driving.
-By the time you spec up a gti it is almost as expensive.
-Gti built in South Africa, r32 in Germany.
I wonder does it have the Recaro seats - a snip at just $3251(+ LCT=$4155) more than the standard leather!
ILIV tell me if you plan to leave your job...

Well just came back from the closest VW dealer. Had me a little drive. Have to say in the flesh the R32 is pretty nice, driving it is fantastic. The DSG felt great and yes no need to heel & toe which my bung ankle will thank me greatly for!
Spoke to my director and said YES I will take it. At $250 a month I just could not say no, would actually be crazy too! I asked all the details of finance the company has done and took a look at the contract. A 4 year term with 0 residual (that was the deal the soon to be old Logistics manger wanted) so in 4 years the deal with work is it will be all mine
I already have a buyer for all the mods on Tubby from the MX5 club and is giving me almost enough to cover most of my purchase prices for them excluding the shipping.
Looking at the market I should be able to sell Tubby for over $40,000 as there is a demand for the Limited Editions on the used market! That towards the deposit of the new house will be very nice indeed
As some here would know I recieved a special deal on Tubby so that $40,000 is more than I paid
Buy a car, drive it for 18 months, track it alot then sell it for more than you bought it for... I love it!!!!
Today I feel has been a good day... And a hell of a way to start the week!

The only downside is that the VW forums are a lot less ...amicable...than here
Mention any form of mod, and you are almost guaranteed of being attacked by 3 trolls who probably aren't even old enough to have licences, and one who does, but should know better.

I guess here I was more wanting to share this with the group. Many here on this forum I consider long term friends and so was itching to share. I am very excited!
Besides many here I believe to be good people and do respect very much, so hearing their thoughts is never a waste.
Thanks mate. I appreciate your comments. We spoke about my plans for Tubby so you know exactly what I needed to consider and reminded me of that!I ended up looking at it 2 ways
1st. To get Tubby to were I wanted him to go was going to cost another $10,000 to $15,000 and would take a few years to accomplish and probably a few broken parts and a wife not to keen on me doing that!
2nd. I really enjoy driving Danielle's Ralliart Colt. It is a great little toy. The R32 is that colt on steroids so I believe I will love it, plus has the comforts that I miss from the 8 and a wife who loves the R32 after she looked at it today!
Oh god the wife figures in both... I truly am married!
I'm rather excited now. A new toy in a couple of weeks to play with
