AU Where to buy MRO in Sydney?

Just spoke to my local dealer about buying 5litres of MRO and it is now $88. I am keen to do a mid-service oil and gearbox and diff fluid change myself. There must be better places in Sydney to get MRO than this place. Where do you guys get yours?
Also, the oil and gearbox oil is the same product, is this true? I believe I need 1.3 litres for the gearbox and 1.7 litres for the diff?

Why (especially if you are going to do 5000km oil changes) would go go with MRO? There are far cheaper, quality oils that are going to hold up for 5000km.

As for the diff and GB oils being the same, some oils for diff have additives that dont go well with the syncro's so you need to be carefull. IMHO its better to get purpose specific oils.

Cheers

Well Ive read your "oils aint oils" thread and it seems you know your stuff, it's a good thread. So if you tell me what oils you use I will just go with that..

I would be hesitant to use HPR5 ... I'm weary about the issue of oil comsumption. With a rotary you want your oil to drop by at least 1L every 3-4000km as this oil is needed to lubricate your apex seals. I've noticed this isn't the case with HPR5 ... and it could explain why some people are losing compression (possibly due to dry/damaged apex seals)!

Get a lighter oil, especially if you're just driving your car enthusiastically ... 5W30 is more than adequate.

Motul make a good oil, and PAC Performance uses Castrol Edge.

I dont have mine handy so can someone check their manual and tell me if the manual allows for a 40 weight oil under any circumstances?

FWIW = For What Its Worth.

Check out Sin 75 or 80 Gear oil for both GB and diff.

Cheers

The manual does suggest this, however that wasn't why I mentioned viscosity.

Our apex seals are starved for oil, especially those of us who have the 1st version of the Renesis, and I've noticed in terms of my application that my oil consumption halves with HPR5 vs any other oil I've used in my car so far (to say this is a good thing is absolute bollocks!!! This isn't an otto cycle engine!!!). I've also had a noticeable drop in fuel economy on HPR5 vs MRO/Motul 5W30/Mobil 5W30 and 5W50 that I have used in the past.

Perhaps it's just that HPR 5 is not as good at being metered by a pump as other oils?

I remember going to a demonstration on this at uni ... some oils are quite good at meshing in between gears, others aren't so good, hence some will pump easier than others and it isn't always related to viscosity, it's related to the construction of the oil ... but that was years ago when I was studying for an engineering degree so I may have it a bit wrong.

Has anyone got time to have a look at BobIsTheOilGuy to find out?

I've used it over 30000km and noticed that my fuel economy was dwindling down and down and the flutter noise was starting to get louder and louder ... I tried pre-mixing which helped, but then I changed to a lighter full synthetic and my performance improved greatly and the flutter noise reduced back to how it was when the car was new.

I've decided on the Redline "Shockproof" Oils for the gearbox and diff(heavy for diff and light for gearbox).
Anyone know a good place to get these oils in Sydney?

MikeyR and I used Royal Purple for our gearbox and diff.

To save agonising (ahem, see above) about engine oil, I just stick to MRO, which City Performance at Artarmon sources for me for servicing purposes.

Reminds me, I need to book mine in soon...

Agreed. I just bought 2 Gallon bottles of Redline "Shockproof" oil for gearbox and diff. One heavy(diff) and one light(gearbox) for $130 each and 5litres of MRO for $88. Painfull. Now to put it all in, hopefully there will be enough Redline to do 2 gearbox and Diff changes..

http://www.performancelub.com, speak to Harold, he's in Melbourne, but it might still work out cheaper even after shipping.

Changed the Diff and gearbox oil today. The gearbox is noticeably smoother for changes and the diff isn't doing that shudder on hard slow turning anymore so a good result so far..

Found am unbeatable price on MRO in Sydney I think. It is from West End Mazda in Parramatta. It was $55 for 5 litres and I have been told that a fellow member haggled with them and got it for $45! So I can't see it being cheaper anywhere else in Sydney.
I have ordered parts from there that won't be here until the 1st Of September, so if anyone near me (North Sydney area) wants me to pick some up for them when I go the in about a month just let me know and you can pick it up from me if it is easier for you? Has to beat the $88 they try to charge for the same thing at Artarmon Mazda!

I'm in North Sydney but I've already been out there unfortunately as the parts arrived early. I got some for Revolver but had no other orders at that stage. If I head out there again for any reason I'll post here to ask again for any orders..

Can't understand why you guys waste your money on MRO, it is just Castrol (mineral) , yes it is exclusive to Mazda Dealers...big deal..

I use Castrol GTX 3, $26 for 5 litres., if you bothered to READ your OWNERS MANUAL you can use ANY oil you want to in the viscosity range shown.

My trans has Redline MT90, Diff 75W90

Put your manners back in and try that again Ash.

Some of us have followed the endless oil debate and made a decision. We're not idiots.
