Who needs a new MAF
Guys and Girls I need to order a new MAF (mine has been eaten by oil) and Mazda have quoted me $380 dollars.
I can get them cheaper by a long shot from the US but it makes most sense to order 2 at a time.
If anyone is interested it will cost you what it costs me which at this point is about $140 AU plus any shipping to you.
First in gets it

Andrew, once you get the turbo kit fitted you shouldnt need the maf. The microtech wont care if its there or not. You might get a CEL but you will get that with the microtech anyway.
How did it get eaten by oil? From the airfilter?

glenn, no CEL with the microtec and pretty sure the MAF is used. Reason I say that is that ProMaz are the ones saying they want me to replace it before tunning.
If they dont use the MAF what are you expecting them to use?
Cheers

The microtech uses its built in Map sensor, not the Maf. I have done many of these piggy back installs (no RX-8s though) and the microtech definatley doesnt use the Maf.
Its possible the Maf is required for some functions the Microtech cant control. The factory ECU may require it for the OMP (oil metering pump) among other things.
Now that I think about it, last time I spoke to Simon he said that the factory ECU is still used until the engine sees boost and then the microtech takes over. I have no idea how they acheive this though.
Fot the price you are getting the Maf I would replace it anyway
Whens the kit getting fitted Andrew?

Yes exactly...sorry forgot about that. The ProMaz kit is factory ECU until boost kicks in. The Microtec simon uses is not a standard LT10, there are a number of mods he gets them to make to it
I have been told the car will most likely be ready on Saturday. But that may change as I have asked them to brush back all the corrosion and prime and paint it.
