Done 50km of city driving and still cannot wear out the plastic stud indicator on the surface. I think it is alright going up and down Winton.

I think CAMS L2 Speed is ok. Even Non Speed Level 2 is fine.

What is considered "Proper shoes"? Is this leather as opposed to running shoes? Or is it just closed in footware therefore excluding thongs, sandles etc?

Again is the "Long sleeve clothings" a requirement just to cover bare arms or does it need to be a particular material?

RXVIII, Non flammable that covers your full arms and legs is the only requirement that I am aware of.

I think cotton of anything is ok. No nylon coz they are highly flammable. Shoes - runners is ok, but again some of which has nylon. I prefer you wearing something cottonish... like the casual wear, or leather with plastics sole.

I ended up doing 360 odd Kms, used ~105 litres of fuel and about 3-400ml of oil.

And that fuel consumption sounds about right for a day of heavy footed tracking - a bit higher than I've heard before

What sort of distances/consumption figures did others do?

In my personal opinion, if I was looking to do that many track ks per day, I'd seriously look at the machinery and rig I was running, because it is a lot of work for a road car. Second oil cooler would have to be a no-brainer, as would track wheels/tyres and suspension. Given taka's observations on fluid temps, probably also an upgraded radiator, fan controller and maybe a vented bonnet set-up. Full CAMS approved fire extinguisher should be mandatory, too. I'd also have to look at trailering the car there, too, as the higher the number of laps the greater the risk that for some...any..reason..it may not take me home that night I certainly wouldn't be using my DD

I've learnt these lessons from rallying, and I'll be the first to say it's a different sport, of course, but 360ks of hard driving in any format is hard on cars...and drivers

<me ducks because the above might be taken as hard criticism, when all I intend is to convey how I would approach tracking at that sort of level>

Boy was I tired when I arrived home. What a fantastic day though!

I myself did around 230-240km of track driving and besides the brakes needing a bleed all seems OK! Doing 1 warm up lap, 3 to 4 good hard laps and 1 to 2 easy cool down laps still allows you to cover plenty of km's, although Timbo does make a good point. I think a lot of us did about the max you probably would want to.

Took Danielle out for a few laps... And lets just say she prefers the Skidpan. Into the 1st corner she screamed as she thought I had forgotten to brake and believed we would never make it through it! The speeds were a little much for her she said.

As for Winton I have to say it is more fun to drive than Sandown. Give me a few weeks and I will be ready for the next one

I think it may have been 320k's though as I cant read my own hand writting for my starting k's (2 or a 7???)

Timbo, no offence taken, in fact I agree whole heartedly. But remember, of that distance, maybe 1/3 were warm up/down laps. The most laps I put in in one go was 10 and the 10th lap was VERY scary. Apart from that one time I would only do 4 or 5 and then rest the car for 10-15 min.

I get pretty ordinary consumption normally so I am used to being worse than everyone else. Also, Stuart will tell you, I am a little agressive
but I had a mission to get into the 1:47's, but only managed 1:49.3xx.

I tell you though, the biggest lesson I learnt on the day (apart from the one about the S-bend ) was to try and but it all together on the one lap. By the end of the day I was getting frustrated with myself as I was putting together only parts 2/3 to 3/4 of the course at a time, so I would focus on the part that I messed up, and end up messing up a different section

Ohh well, in all a good day with lots of lessons learnt...I at least think that I took away the closest call of the day, allof which was fantastically caught on film by Peter. soon as they are available I will post em up.

I had a great time... I clocked 185 kms of track work and filled up approximately 45 litres. It was just as fun watching other guys do their business on track as well as chatting to the friendly folks that turned up.

I missed out on the S-bend action Andrew... but I hear you are a legend!

NEXT- I reckon Calder Park Raceway sounds good... hehehe!

They (those who were there) mentioned this might be addictive. This was my first track day and for me an opportunity to understand what the RX8 can really do and what I as a driver could learn. I never pushed it that hard, used about 45litres of fuel and a reasonable amount of oil. I guess the thing i took out of the day is the handling of the car - i used dsc the whole time and that no doubt slowed me down but my times consistently got lower through the day as i became more aware of the line and gearing.
I may have had the slowest time, but i had the biggest grin!!!
Thanks again for the organisation, - oh and is it addictive? You bet....Winton is a great track to learn on (my opinion). Bring it on......quickly!!!

My first few laps the first time I went to winton were with the DSC on, but actually found it more enjoyable to slide the car around corners Seriously though, with the DSC off, you can expect to slow a little, and put in times just as fast

Its ok mate, Peter caught it in full 8 1/2 frame per second glory. Soon as we have them, they will be the first ones I post :-D

If no one else wants to I am happy to look into calder? I know that ist going to be hard to get another day at winton this year if we dont book in the next month.

I did about 200, 2 hours of tape and 36 laps recorded.

Yeah it was a great time with Glen, we chat about most things on the track. He went out to get the best time and I went and get 5/10th better. Then Glen did a Schumacher style last minute qualifying effort to did the best time of the day.

The track is just too hot to make good time. Glen said if it is 10 degree cooler we will get down to the 42s.

For me I had a lot of fun and a 1.43.6 is no laughing matter - I think it is a good time since Glen pushing his semis very hard to beat me.

Becareful ACT and NSW boys, I NOW HAVE AN ACE recruit for the Nats with 15 years of racing experience.

I had to say xatnep is also a star. I watch his line and he is such a quick driver
