I guess the thing i took out of the day is the handling of the car - i used dsc the whole time and that no doubt slowed me down but my times consistently got lower through the day as i became more aware of the line and gearing.
I may have had the slowest time, but i had the biggest grin!!!
Thanks again for the organisation, - oh and is it addictive? You bet....Winton is a great track to learn on (my opinion). Bring it on......quickly!!!
WOW!!

As another “first timer” I would just like to reiterate what Paul has said. Addictive; absolutely, awesome; definitely; interested in another; without question!

Glen, great to hear all is well & congrats on the 0.00.3000 margin!

Andrew, many thanks for the organisation as I’m well aware of the effort & dedication required.

Taka, thanks for the introduction laps & general pointers. They were much appreciated and demonstrative of the friendly & helpful atmosphere of the day especially for those supporting “L Plates” (despite the intense competitiveness among the Top Guns!)

Great day was had by me & I believe everyone present.

I completed close to 180Km’s on the track with a fuel consumption around 30L/100km’s.

See you all again soon.

Yeah it was a great time with Glen, we chat about most things on the track. He went out to get the best time and I went and get 5/10th better. Then Glen did a Schumacher style last minute qualifying effort to did the best time of the day.

The track is just too hot to make good time. Glen said if it is 10 degree cooler we will get down to the 42s.

For me I had a lot of fun and a 1.43.6 is no laughing matter - I think it is a good time since Glen pushing his semis very hard to beat me.

Becareful ACT and NSW boys, I NOW HAVE AN ACE recruit for the Nats with 15 years of racing experience.

I had to say xatnep is also a star. I watch his line and he is such a quick driver
And for your BDay Glenn beat you! What a dirty stop out!

Thanks Taka, I dont know about the Schumacher comparison but I was driving as hard as I could.

Wakefields going to be good. I cant wait The best thing is we have plenty of time to practice and improve our times.

Taka, what front brake rotors are you using? Mine are a bit sad after yesterday.

I was just looking at the DBA catalogue and they have listed a two piece rotor for the RX-8. I might find out about these.

My wife thinks you are going to cost us a fortune

Yep another great track day thanks to all for the laid back feel for the day in the pits vs the red hot go we all had on the track. Thanks to Taka for the kind words regarding my lines through the corners, unfortunately I also tried to follow Taka's lines through the corners but the standard tyres and suspension and lack of talent meant when I took Jenny out for a couple of quick laps all she could comment on was how I "lost it but didn't quite spin" around the tight central hairpins.
I believe that a certain Andrew Auzoom may have just spun at the esses to prove he really was trying
I can't wait for the photos to follow
Sorry I had to leave before Super Glenn was able to do his hot lap, I would have loved to see the Stig just itch to get out and have another try
Does anyone have the final times everyone was able to achieve?

Thanks everyone for a great day. The track was fantastic, better and more technical than Sandown I reckon....my favorite was the Roll Ovr Corner and the S-bend. I did about 190km on the track and avg about 35L/100km.
Can't wait to see the photos from Peter.
We should do this more often.

I am hoping Peter caught some flames shooting out of some of the cars on track. I noticed with the Hymee exhaust... and following Andrew- it definitely shot some flames out on the downshift and upshifts on the long straights. IT looked pretty cool!

I noticed as you keep lapping ie > 6 laps backfiring/more pronounced pops seems to be more frequent in the afternoon session as ambient temperature went higher. I would assume some flames are shooting out.

For OEM ppl on track... how did your tyres pull up after the day? The RX8 is pretty easy on tyres I reckon. I've got another 4 track days left... still plenty of tread left... even wear all around. Brakes took awhile to get rid of some glazing ... fortunately my brake rotors are not warped.

All is well for another track day for the car.

I think it is the unburn fuel that gets into the exhaust system and hot and ignited.

I saw those flame from the back of glen's car which is fitted with Hymees.

Maybe I should cut that clip and post it here. Let me find it first.

MissyK, yes its dangerous, you might get burnt

Seriously, if there were flames ... surely you must have some damage to the front of your car as there must have been glass beads flying everywhere

Speaking of which I will go and run like hell now as the flames really start flying

Please be aware that all of this post is intended as a joke, in no way am I being serious or believe that it will happen. I have made my opinion known on this topic a while ago.

All rotaries will shoot flames out of the exhaust when driven in anger. Its just that your never at the back of your car to see them

When I used to take my RX-7 out for late night testing you could clearly see flames through the rear vision mirror as you backed of the throttle.
I have been told that they were about 6ft long out both pipes

This is common on turbo cars too. And if you watch the V8 supercars you will notice that they always shoot flames in between gears.

I would like to see those pics of my flames taka

Hey...My AASA license turned up today. Interestingly Calder Park recognise them. Also found out that Calder charge $5000 for a weekend and $4000 for a weekday, and then $40/hr for each of Safety and Amulance (40*8=320*2=$640) so they are about $1000 more expensive than Winton, but with Accom and Fuel across 10 people it may be about the same. Gotta speak to someone tomorrow about the saftey/ambo stuff and transponder costs.

I know you guys had fun the other day, but can you spare a thought for us poor, jealous bastards who couldn't make it and at least pretend it wasn't as much fun as it was?

On a serious note, it's good to hear all had a good time, and more importantly, everyone got themselves and their cars home in one piece.

Hey Taka! Did you manage to get your semis off without any problem this time? The pics you posted look aaaaaawwwwwsssssuuuuummmmm(as Kall would say). Can't wait to see more pics and video.

To all of you who were "track virgins" prior to this week like I was prior to last years Nats, welcome to the world of addiction.

Me too... I got my AASA today.

Hopefully if the numbers are up for Calder... it'll be cheaper. IF we can get cost down to about $200 I am sure lots will attend.

Put me in the interested list Andrew.

How the hell can you drive like that. Someone might think you thought you were on a bike

That's a strange looking 8 at 'FRONT' in the 3rd picture

The story goes I took them all under brakes into the S'ss. Really I did

In all honesty though that would be the first & longets time I have had the STIG behind me with no rude gestures suggesting I get the hell out of his way

A word of warning though to all those who did not attend the day. DO NOT LOOK AT ALL THE PICTURES THAT WILL COME. If you do you will grow to dislike yourself very much for not being able to attend... It was soooo much fun
