'05 pricing - experiences?

Before I begin let me say, yes I read the other threads on the subject. I would like to know who can report getting a good deal on an '05 GT?

I took my first shot today at Kramer in Calgary. They wanted to start from MSRP, so before they got started, I explained what I thought their invoice was, and that I knew of '04's that sold in September for 40.5 all-in. I suggested I wanted to arrive at 41.5 with a moon roof added in. The salesman returned without a counter and had supposedly been told that the dealer would be taking a loss of about 1300 on that price so they didn't know where to start. He reported that there were incentives-to-dealer on the '04 that are not on the '05.

It was after closing time, so I left my number and walked away. So, what experiences can people report and can anybody verify/deny that the incentives for dealers were really high in September? Any advice here? I'm going to North Hill on Friday.

Blue-Frenzy, any chance you'd be willing hook me up with your North Hill salesman?

Hey Woody

Good to see some one that did their homework!! EVERY dealer says that they are taking a hit and "reluctantly" sell you the car for a lowly xyz amount (even if it's MSRP!!).

You know what, I played each of the dealers off of each other. I too went to Kramer and got about 43K for their best price. Then went to NorthHill and said that Kramer was going to give it to me for a bit lower, etc and played the card "I like you guys better because you guys are no-nonsense and I want to buy from you, etc". In the end NorthHill caved and gave it to me for what I wanted cuz I guess they didn't want to lose the sale to Kramer. Funniest part was that it was the same car on the Kramer reserve lot that we were dealing over!

I personally dealt with Ken Nhan at NorthHill. He's the assistant manager there so he's on a different commission/pay schedule compared to the "regular" salesguys. Pretty nice guy ... but aren't they all your best friend? I think your guy was telling a partial truth about dealer incentives but it's only worth a couple hundred bucks.

Rotten42 dealt with the Sunridge Finance Manager (?) there and he got a great deal (well, same as me). I can't remember the Sunridge guy's name exactly, but may want to give him a try because he too is on a different pay schedule. You'd have to ask Rotten for the guy's contact.

I think some of the fellows here got 05's for close to that price back in Jan or Feb. I can't remember exactly who.

I took quite awhile to hammer out a deal (almost 6 weeks). I think Admiral8 took something like 5 months!!!

PM if you got any other questions. I hope you're getting a blue one. Heh heh.

Current cash back to dealers is ~$3000 and there is an additional special unpublished discount terminating at the end of April. You should be able to get $4000 off list.I guess they are just greedy in Calgary.

Well, I ended up with Ken at North Hill getting 2500 off list plus 0% financing for 36 months. So that saves me another 1500 or so in interest.

So, it's titanium grey (I do like the blue, but it's just too bold for me!) with moon roof for 42.5. It's just off the boat in Vancouver and it should get here in a week or two. This is going to be the longest week ever!

I'm not planning to come out to many meets, but I will try to make it to at least one so I can buy you a beer or two, Bluefrenzy. Thanks for all your help. See you all on the road soon!

Speaking of Mazdaspeed kits, if anyone is interested in Calgary perhaps we can get a discount if we can get the volume up. It is quite expensive, however. I'm ordering OEM. PM me if anyone is interested.

Hey Woody
I was NorthHill Mazda today and Ken mentioned you and was quite happy for the referal. Anyways, he told me that your car is arriving Monday or something. But I'm sure you knew that already.

Hmm, Ken told me on Thursday he found out that Allied hadn't picked it up yet. So on Friday I picked up a loaner from him because my old car was dying. He didn't mention a new ETA to me. Monday would be awesome, but I won't hold my breath.

42.5 was the final amount including GST & everything (except a $25 lien fee). As in, my payments = 42.5 / 36 months.

Did any of these numbers include a trade in credit? I think they gave me almost 21k for my old car, so I only had to pay tax on 20k, yay! (hard to be happy about any tax, but I'll take what I can get!)

Yeah, Cowtown = Calgary, Alberta. No provincial sales tax. And I had no trade so I paid full GST.
