Funky gas guage
One thing i would like to figure out is just how big the gas tank REALLY is.
Twice now i have run it down until the light came on, and one of those times i drove about 39km on the light.
In both cases I managed to pump about 52 liters in.
Considering my manual says it is a 60 liter tank, that is a BIG reserve.
OTOH, the last 1/4 tankful on the guauge seems to drop off REAL FAST.

11 posts up .... 12 now I suppose is my 11.7L/100Km explaination.
I now have another 40Km on the tank and it moved 1 dash. I'm headed to east of Montreal tomorrow for a wedding that should take the entire tank to get there. So I'll post those results Sunday.

Just filled of 'cause it was 78.9 at the Shell close to my place and the Petrocan was 85.9.
Put in 38.8 L for 339Kms
11.45 l per 100k
20.6 mpg US
24.64 mpg Imperial
about 70% HW and the 1st 150 K were at quite high RPM.
I can live with kind of comsumption.
I have a GS 6M

Ok here's my latest stats.
I filled up Thursday and then drove 50Km city driving. Then I went to Cornwall and filled up (2 people in car).
17.676L for 171.2Km = 10.26 L / 100Km!!!
Ok then I went to Montreal with 4 adults in the car, this was exclusively highway, BUT I got stuck in a traffic jam off champlain bridge for 30 minutes (WTF was with that, not sure because when it cleared there was NOTHING that should have stopped us).
I made it to philipsburg (hour out of montreal) then drove around with the wedding party, then another short jaunt (city) then back to cornwall and on to Ottawa.
My empty light came on BEFORE Vars! I live in Kanata I'm going to run out!
Made it home and made it to the station this morning.
Filled up with 57.59L! phew that was a close one.
Total Km driven = 527 on the nose. That's 10.9L / 100Km!
I'm thinking that isn't so great, but then there was 4 adults in the car and I did get stuck in that traffic jam! And I idled for awhile in the wedding parade.
So not bad!
That's 21.5 Miles per gallon. I don't think it gets much better than that.
Oh I hit redline once with all 4 people, the car definetely doesn't feel as fast with 4 people in it. And it didn't really kick.
Oh and this was 89 octane, I've been running with it, with NO problems. And the sputering on start-up is GONE!

Those numbers are starting to look "normal".. I wonder if the fuel economy will improve as the engines get more km's on them. It looks like it so far.

I think those numbers you posted plus my numbers show you can do quite a bit with car if you don't rive it hard. Drive it at 7k all the time and it's VERY VERY thirsty. If i can average 12 per 100k i'll be happy and live with it. Of course it's 30% less than with my 1.8 T Passat and it's 150 hp but i love my 8 so...

Gas is lighter than water.
If you leave some in the bottom all the time, you will accumulate some condensed water over a while.
Then when you DO run into that part, and it is freezing, bad things will happen.
Of course you can use the odd tank of gas/alcohol mix ( "gasahol", usually 10% mix) and it will absorb the water harmlessly.

I went on a fairly lenghty highway run to Fort MacMurray and back this weekend. About 860km
On the way back I drove until the light came on, then immedediately filled up.
It took 44 liters.
As I am averaging aroud 14.5l/100km at fast highway speeds, that works out to about 110km of highway driving.

I am burning premium AKA "Super", which jumped pretty badly in the last week.
I was paying in the $0.82 liter range a week or two ago, but this weekend I saw as high as 89.9 and as low as 82.5
Bear in mind that in Fort MacMurray, the prices are usually a bit higher than Edmonton, so that explains part of it.
As for the speeds, the highway to Fort Mac is decent, and was very empty this weekend. Except at each end you never see a police car. There is a stretch of around 200km with no side roads, towns, or anything..
In the case of the previous weekend we were on highways like 40 in southern Aberta in the mountains, and it too was empty and unpatrolled as the parks and roads were closed due to forest fire bans.
I also did a bunch of mileage on highway 2, which is typically 140+ all the time. The police do not touch you for anything under 145 at most times.

Just a follow up....
Still get awfull results
296.8 km, 52.011L = 17.52L/100, 13.47mpg Us or 16.09mpg imp.
Mix driving. city/hway (50/50)... no A/C! Driven the same way I used to drive my Audi TT (averaged 12L/100)
Oh well...

Are you people using 91 or 94 octane, and does it make a difference ??
And where do you gas up? I go to Ultramar and i cant get under 15 L/100 km . Maybe different gas company would make a difference.
