2004-2008 Mazda RX-8 recalled for fire risk: nearly 70,000 U.S. vehicles affected
Hi,
Does anyone know if Canada will be having a similar recall?
2004-2008 Mazda RX-8 recalled for fire risk: nearly 70,000 U.S. vehicles affected
I have an 04 and I recently started smelling fuel in the cabin of my vehicle near my rear seats. There are a few threads on fuel smell in the forums such as:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...de-car-221454/
My mechanic who could fix everything just moved out of province. I took to a new indy mechanic and he took a look but said he wasn't sure how to fix. Then, I took to the mazda dealer with tank half full and they looked around but didn't smell anything and couldn't find the issue. Apparently they hadn't heard of this issue before. They suggested I return the car with a full tank of gas and they can look again. Alternatively since my car is close to 200k and on it's way out they told me I could just fill the tank up half way if I am at the stage where I am running the car into the ground. Then I came across the recall article above and how it mentioned there is a shortage of parts for this particular repair.

In 5 years the Series II will receive that very same recall. Drive hard my friends and report ye issues to the Recall website in your country. In the US it is: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/

It's an environmental thing, performing work in nooks and crannies of cars disrupts the natural habitat of your monstrous spiders. Probably more of an issue in Australia than NZ, but we can't risk it.

Got mine in the mail yesterday.
Whoever gets their car serviced first can you let me know how much you paid. I know mazda will reimburse, but im sort of curious to see if the dealerships have streamlined prices for the recall services.
I have had questionable service charges with mazda dealerships before.

this is so funny. cant say how many time i have changed a fuel pump. on the side of a road, under a tree at a race track. have never had a cracked a ring. had someone drop by for help about 5 years ago, (broken pump ring) and i had a spare, go figure. but in the last year, i have had the smell when the tank is full. got the letter in the mail today.
this was a good day..

Bought a 2015 Mazda 3 and brought it in for a recall. They snuck in extra charges or services they wanted to do?
It was my first car bought from a dealership and first car brought in for a recall.
Mustve been my lack of experience of what to expect

if they find something else, they can always present it to you. It is up to you to decide to do the work or not. They will "encourage/recommend" you to do it. But at the end of the day, they cannot force work on your car that you did not agree on.
Whatever the recall requires is always 100% covered. It is law. Mazda Canada reimburses them for the work.

Just took the car in to Sundance Mazda for the recall. First step is apparently inspection. If the seals are good and not showing signs of deterioration, they're left alone.
Both tank seals were in great shape, so no problems here.

Got my letter also. Will take it in soon. I am just as happy they are upgrading the insulation on the fuel tank. I have always felt it was substandard, what with the hot exhaust pipe running right through the middle of the saddle tanks. I am convinced that excessive heat in the tank has helped contribute to early fuel pump failures.

Got mine yesterday but will have to wait until Spring time.
For those who went already and didn't get them changed - Apparently because parts are currently "limited", they will inspect it first, if the seals are showing no signs of deterioration or damage, they will be left alone for now... until more parts are made/become available, they will then be changed. Only the vehicles that have it bad will be replaced at this time. Please follow up on it with the dealer or Mazda Canada if they were not replaced at time of inspection at the dealer.

Had my RX-8 into Mazda of Richmond Hill on January 12th and they replaced the fuel pump O-rings along with adding some insulation padding so the parts are available in Ontario. They also replaced the driver's side airbag inflator only (not the entire air bag assy.). My particular 2005 model did not have a recall on the passenger's side.
