I'm in for as many events I can possibly make it out to.
I've talked with a number of you at the end of last season about the track day that these guys put on... and bar none it's the best I've ever been to. Everyone's extremely helpful (both organizers and participants), it's very well organized, and the lap timers actually allow you to see what works in terms of tweaks and driving lines.
If you're going to make it out to a tracking day this year... I'd recommend that you hit one of of their days. If you do... cya there

Sweet - I'm so glad you guys are running this event again!
When I signed up for this last year it was only my 2nd time ever tracking my car so I was having a lot of second thoughts about it - after getting out there and meeting everyone though, I wished I had signed up for more than one day !!!
Its a very well run event and accommodating to even the most n00b of drivers :D !
(Hey Rev - lemme know what dates you were thinking of signing up for... cls is going to sign up with us as well !)

A little update, my brother and I both got some money together and got ourselves an RX-8! I mentioned to you last year that I was shopping for one, and wow! WHAT AN AMAZING CAR!!! It has that strong familiar, FD RX-7 feeling, but at the same time, completely different. You can definitely tell they're from the same family. Can't wait to bring both the 7 and 8 out this year!!! I got quite a few things to learn for you guys!

I can tell you one thing for sure, 1:19.xx is definitely not a shabby time in the rain; sure beat a lot of our experienced racers. Not n00b at all RD....
Seriously though, the only requirement at SRTA is a DOT approved helmet, as well as a car that's safe (we'll perform a quick tech on every car). Since this is your first time tracking, especially for a rotary, I'd recommend the following:
- pre-mix your gas a bit
- be sure to bring a lot of extra fluids, engine oil, coolant etc.
- bring some extra coolant hoses of various sizes, if you have any.
- Gloves (that's one hot engine bay....)
- Small fire extinguisher. We have more if you need it, but hopefully you won't. :P
- Silicone
- Duct tape
- Everything else you would normally bring to a trackday: tools, tire pressure gauge, sunscreen, jacks, towels.... etc.
Do any of you RX-8 track veterans have anything else to add to the list?
Thank you very much everyone!

Oh, a jerry can full of gas couldn't hurt either. I got a little carried away after the results last year and when I was taking druggist for a spin I had the car go into limp mode after a hard left 'cause I was so low on gas. Was funny, the fuel gauge was at about a 1/8 when I first went out... then down to almost nothing after a lap or two... the fuel gauge lies... and my car farts too many flames (I still don't have a picture of that yet!)

REV, if you get the larger swaybars, I HIGHLY recommend stronger endlinks. I just found out last week that my rear endlink shattered and I have no clue when it happened since the car was stored in November :s
That being said, once I get my new endlinks I'll be in for this. Probably all the dates if I have time.

Like I said before.. as long as I can get my car in order, I'll be there for May 22nd. You'll learn to like the DDT dude... plus there are acouple of other FD drivers there who could likely give you some pointers with the car

I was thinking about those too. And I'm gonna need new pads for sure. Any thoughts on the HP Plus?
I had all three of those in the cart on their website and was about to order but decided to wait since there's still a couple of months until I can take the car out. I've got other things on my mind too. My ride height is all messed up from my coilover install and I need to get balanced and aligned.

Hrmm.. HP's are pretty good.. I went with the ceramic which are suppose to be about the same. Still my preference is the EBC green's. The only problem with them was they dusted like a ****.

Well, well, well. I'm going to book a day or two off. Let me know what day is the best. I've got my coilovers getting rebuilt, advans getting shipped, some autoexe stuff coming from Japan and some asses to beat on. lol!
I need a new helmet too, broke mine snowboarding on the street and sideswiping a cordoba!

HP+ is not the best pad out there. Best to keep oem or whatever for the street and swap proper track pads for the track. HP + are noisy and dusty on the street and don't hold up on the track, DDT does require some braking unlike the big track.
I use carbotech xp10 / xp8 - you can go xp8 all around. You can also leave the xp8s in all summer long if you feel like it. Had some good experience with cobalt pads.
Check out this Eric Meyer post on brakepads - https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-racing-25/hawk-brake-info-188727/
And if you are new, stay da **** away from r comps, you will go faster but learn allot less - they can hide allot of negatives.
If anyone wants a good school at the DDT to get some basics which you can latter develop in tracking days - check out the Hanson school.

Chad D - Northern BMW is doing a 3 day race school / track school in Mid Ohio April 4-6 if you are interested. Good value and lots of track time. PM me if you interested.

Oh yes, definitely the torque wrench and jerry can. Be sure to re-torque the lug nuts multiple times that, and the jerry can will really help the pre-mixing process. Thanks Rev.
My FD is the same. I've gone on the track with about 1/4 tank, but hits fuel cut. However, since I'm not competing in pro-level road racing, I can live with pumping gas a little more frequently. :P
We would love to having some quality coaches on our site to help some of our racers get a jump start.
Although the speed is not up there, but we definitely find the DDT much more challenging than the typical straight-turn-straight-turn configuration, such as Dunnville or Shanny Fabi.
Yes, I believe quite a bit of RX-7s will turn up on our first event as well. We will probably have make a it mandatory to wear gas masks on May 22nd lol....
