So we can enter the track at 9 ... when/where do you guys wanna meet up to cruise over? LOL Markham Station again ?! (I can try to eat that 3 egg, 3 pancakes, sausage + bacon + toast breakfast again haha).
But in all seriousness I'm cool with just grabbing McD's or sth before we head out.

I'm likely going to leave my place around 7:45-8ish so I can get there and get the car prepped... I'm likely just gonna stop at the Timmies in Bowmanville on the way up for some coffee/fud

Lol... the win was more dumb luck on timing then anything else. Steps involved:
1) Put on slicks after everyone else has already done so and hit their fast times for the day.
2) Curse the weather as it beings to rain once you've finished tightening the last lug on the tire swap (scream NoOOoOOOOoOOOo at the sky.. critical step)
3) Get one of the slowest times possible thanks to slicks in the rain
4) Have the leaders decide to hit the track just after the rain stops rather than letting the track dry some more
5) Get on the track when it's mostly dry and go through two sets of hot laps allowing the engine warm up / get the tires are grippy before going out yourself.
6) Don't screw up much.
7) Be confused as you go back to the meeting area and they announce you won.
There will not be a repeat performance this year I'm sure.

I wish I could make it out to some of these events this year but I still don't have roll bar in my MX-5. I love the DDT too.
I can fix that. I'm now the Canadian distributor for a product called Trakk Tape. It's clear and way more durable than painter's tape.

hmm looks interesting ... but my painter's tape has always done the job for me... if you ever come out to a meet I'd love to see some of this stuff on a car to get a feel for how it actually looks and performs !

I ran into some issues (rear sway/endlink disconnect (thanks Howi)), etc... but... still had a hellva lot of fun... complete with fire :D
Hope more of you guys come out next time!

yeah... that's pretty much what I'm thinking. Will head into Mazda at some point this week to pick them up. The fronts are clunking away now so it wouldn't surprise me if they're not free floating as well.
bah well... next time.

Just a friendly reminder that the early bird special of $165 will end in 10 days.
With the 45 timers, hopefully we can spare a lot of hands, and I'll be able to track my 7 and 8!
Thanks for everything! You RX-8 people are so lovely!

Hey what do you guys think of this for my grey RX-8 GT?
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv...427725560.html
I got the price down to $1,000 without tires. Should I go for it?
I know the offset is a little low, may have some problems with rubbing, but I think I should be fine on stock height?
I think they're reasonably light, well priced, and should look pretty hot..

Regarding lower offset wheels, I think it's pretty much like everything on a car - it's always a trade off. I'm no expert in suspension in geometry at all, but from the little that I know, the effects are:
1. Larger track.
2. Shorter distance between tires and fenders.
3. Larger positive scrub radius.
4. Larger distance away from the hub.
To describe what effects the above have on handling:
1. Larger track means longer leaver arms. This means there is less reaction force acting on the tires when cornering. In other words, more grip will be available.
2. As we all know, this can cause tires to rub on fenders.
3. This is generally a good thing for track cars, as the steering and handling become more precise, with more feedback. However, this also means steering is requires more effort, and bumps/bumpsteer can be felt more. Also, under acceleration (on gas) or deceleration (on brake), any bias between the left and right wheels are more apparent. This means there will be more torque steer, or brake steer.
4. More wear on wheel bearings.
These are all the elementary things I know. By the way, I got the price down to $950 so I just picked them up!
Thanks for the heads up cl_s!

Nice rims dude... one hellva deal as well!
Glad to hear the nut finally made it back to you, but I told em to give it back to you ASAP! You were at the other end of the track for the last qualifying when I had to leave so couldn't give it to you in person. Thanks again for your help!
Looks like the other nuts are starting to work themselves free... so went out and bought the proper ones.... 20 bucks later for 8 of em.. bpth. Just have to get some time to actually take care of it. Least the thing is air cared now.
In any case, it looks like some modification will be in order to account for the Progress rear sway. It's knocking against the head light senor swing arm so I'll have to fashion some kind of spacer or something to get it out of the way... This could also cause some unexpected handling characteristics when under load... doubt it's having too much of an affect though..
Anyways... can't make it to June's event 'cause of work.. but should be there in July. Have fun!

The rims are on their way home from Los Angeles! :D
Can't wait to get them and mount them on the 8, I think they look amazing! I'll take some photos when I receive them.
No worries about the June event gentlemen. You guys just roll out whenever you want, and we'll be here. We'll have even more RX-7's coming out in June, should be fun.
Just an FYI, if you do plan on coming out again this season, please watch out for the spaces available field on our pre-registration page. SRTA event tickets are going faster than any of us anticipated. For the June event, as soon as one of our members posted about having 13 available spots left, they were literally all sold out in the next hour. People were going nuts over the remaining spots and before we knew what was happening, they were all gone. We had to spend the entire day apologizing to friends and teams for reaching the 45 cap, and had to turn them all away....
Yes, I certainly look forward to a RX-8 trackday. Next time we're on, we'll all get on the track at the same time and have a little fun. Photos for sure too!
Rev, there are many ways you secure a nut to prevent it from working itself loose from vibration. If there's enough bolt length, you can simply install a split lock washer:
If there isn't enough bolt length, a couple drops of Loctite will also ensure that the nuts won't work themselves loose.
Thank you all so much again for making SRTA what it is today.

SRTA seems to be VERY well organized compared to some of the other events I've been to, and with the free snacks, drinks, and bbq, I think it's moved to the top of my list!

yeah... I'm going to be registering next week for the July event... FYI guys... these spots are selling out quickly now. The last event sold out in a single day when someone posted they were down to 13 spots... so if you're interested in this I'd register sooner rather than later.
Howi: Yeah... I've got what I need now... it's just a matter of putting them on the car. I honestly haven't had time for the past while to breathe. There's something else wrong with the car right now... it's extremely skiddish. Really just need to get under the car and see what's going on.
